Gary Brockman Poland, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 24, 1938 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Ronald and Alma (Brokman) Poland. He married Marcia Hall on August 29, 1998 and together they enjoyed twenty-six years of marriage.
Gary faithfully served his Country through his dedicated work in the Army National Guard, and he proudly led Wabash County as head of civil defense for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a talented pianist and loved music. Gary also enjoyed to tinker and was always inquisitive on how things worked. His family always shared the story of when Gary was three years old, he took apart a tricycle to see how it worked. Gary was the happiest when he was on a boat fishing with family and his dogs. He served as Elks Exalted Ruler and also served as president of the Mesa Lake board. Gary was a very hard worker and was employed at Snap On Tools for many years. He also worked at Mid-East Supply, Kieffer Lumber, Faulkner Automotive and Hogg Heaven. During Gary’s working career, he made many lasting friendships. Gary will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Gary will be remembered by his wife, Marcia Poland; son, Greg Poland and wife, Heidi; daughter, Gina Clark and husband, Roddy; brother, Todd Poland; step children, Mike Fuller and wife, Ellen, Mark Fuller and wife, Kendra, Suzanna Brown and husband, Dale; grandchildren, Jolinda Wiseman, Mason Poland, John, Hunter, and Faith Fuller, Elainna Chirban, Kathy Brown, and Rebekkah Gulley; ten great-grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with Gary’s wishes cremation will take place and services will be scheduled at a later date.
