Dorothy “Dottie” Collar, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by her family’s love. She was born on January 9,1939, in Mexico, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas and Selma (Schremp) Berry. She married Clayton Clifford Collar on April 22, 1961, and they enjoyed fifty-seven years of marriage until his passing on May 13, 2018.
Dottie worked for almost twenty years as Postmaster Relief at Bellmont and Lancaster post offices. She was very crafty and in her free time enjoyed painting, crochet and cross stitch. Dottie would design and sew her husband’s western shirts for everyday wear. She was a great help to Clayton, breaking and training harness horses. Dottie had a great love for animals, especially her dog, Archie. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Dottie leaves behind her daughters, Daneen Collar, Dana Hornback and husband Eugene; a niece whom Clayton and Dottie thought of as a daughter, Janel (David) Wherry; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; special friends who helped Dottie after Clayton’s passing, Rose Peach, Nena and Jeff Xanders.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Clifford Clayton Collar; sister, Norma Carver.
No formal services will be held. Dottie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Bethel Cemetery.
