Norma Marie Sisson, 91

Norma Marie Sisson, 91, of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh with her loving family by her side.

Funeral services for Norma will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.

Norma was born on August 28, 1933, in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Arnett Archibald and Esther (Ransford) Woods. She married Leroy Sisson on December 23, 1950, in Princeton, Indiana and together they had seven children.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara J. (Mike) Gatton of Breese, Illinois, Cheryl Lynn Wilson of Mt. Carmel, Leanna (Joseph E.) Hunter of Newburg, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Melissa Engle, Lori Carty-Sherbert, Angela King, James Carty, Shane Hunter, Levi Sisson, Lexis Beard, Tanner Sisson; fifteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; siblings, Donna Evans of Young Harris, Georgia, Linda Rushing of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Gilbert Woods of Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Norma always said what made her happiest in life was raising her children. She loved family gatherings on the White River that included cookouts and frying fish. She enjoyed her “girls’ trip” to the beach. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and gardening. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the VFW, the Eagles and the Moose.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy; four sons, Gary Lee Sisson, Michael Wayne Sisson, William Joseph Sisson and Mark Richard Sisson; brothers Doyle Woods, Dave Woods, Ronald Woods; sisters, Mary Whitehead, Shirley Woods, Virginia Knight; and loving companion, Tom Wilkinson.
