CONCEALED CARRY COURSE TO BE OFFERED AT WVC January 24, 25, 26, 2019

 If you are interested in obtaining your Illinois Concealed Carry License, why not enroll in the next Concealed Carry course being offered by Illinois Eastern Community Colleges  which will be offered at  Wabash Valley College at the Advanced Technology Center on Thursday and Friday nights,  January 24 and 25, from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m., and on Saturday, January 26, from  8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.      Jay Carter  is the instructor for this class.

Not only will attendees learn the minimum information required by the Concealed Carry Act, but through the use of lecture and range drills, attendees will learn how to safely handle a handgun and hone their skills, as a marksman, and survive a real-world encounter.  Whether you are new to handguns or more experienced, this course is designed to make everyone a more knowledgeable and accomplished shooter.  Through the teaching of current trends and techniques, students will learn and understand how to maintain the proper mindset, skills, and abilities that come with “bearing arms” for the purpose of self-defense.

Pre-registration is required.  The cost of the 16-hour course is $175 for in-District students, which includes tuition and fees, and must be paid in advance to reserve a seat in the course.  The cost for enrollees over 60 years old is $92.  For more information or to get registered, contact your local Student Services Office:  Wabash Valley College-Mt. County Board Approves Special Event Liquor License For Crystal Ball

Wabash County Commissioners last night approved a special event liquor license to the Wabash Valley College Foundation for the annual Crystal Ball. The dinner dance, which is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, is set for Saturday, February 9th at the Anderson Building on the grounds of the Mabel Courter Youth Center. Since the building is outside Mt. Carmel city limits, it was up to the county board to issue the special event license which was done so unanimously.

Mayor: City Not To Blame For Shopko Leaving Mt. Carmel

If you’re disappointed that Shopko in Mt. Carmel is closing, Mt. Carmel Mayor Bill Hudson says don’t blame city officials…

 The mayor’s comments came at last night’s City Council meeting. As we reported last week, Shopko began a liquidation sale at their West 9th Street location. Recent news reports have said that Shopko’s corporation has plans to seek bankruptcy protection as early as this week. Along with Mt. Carmel, a total of 45 Shopko locations will close.

Mt. Carmel Man Picked Up On FTA Warrant

01/09/2019- Mt. Carmel Police arrested 23 year old Justin K. Prater of Mt. Carmel after police stopped a vehicle in which was a passenger.  The arresting officer knew Prater was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant and placed him under arrest.  While searching Prater police located a hypodermic needle on his person.  Police transported Prater to the Wabash County Jail where he was cited for possession of a hypodermic needle and served the Wabash County warrant.  Prater was held pending the posting of bond.  Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff's Office.

Hiding Drugs In Bra Leads To More Charges For Mt. Carmel Woman

01/11/2019-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 26 year old Chelse A. Wilkinson of Mt. Carmel after she was stopped by the Mt. Carmel Police.  Police stopped Wilkinson after she was observed operating a vehicle in the 300 block of W. 3rd Street.  Police knew Wilkinson was wanted on a Wabash County warrant and placed her under arrest.  Wilkinson was transported to the Wabash County Jail and during the in processing she was found to have hidden suspected narcotics in her bra.  Wilkinson was served the Wabash County warrant, charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle, and she was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution.  Wilkinson is being held pending the posting of bond.

Man Arrested For Failing To Pay For Cab From Evansville

01/14/2019-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 28 year old Brandon S. Rayborn of Mt. Carmel.  Rayborn is accused of failing to pay a cab driver for a trip from Evansville to Mt. Carmel.  The complainant advised when they arrived at the destination, Rayborn took off running without paying.   Police located Rayborn in the 800 block of W. 5th and placed him under arrest.  Rayborn did not have the means to pay for the cab so he was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with theft of services.  Rayborn is being held pending the posting of bond.

Woman Jailed Following Domestic Disturbance

01/14/2019-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 48 year old Sarah A. Keenan of Mt. Carmel after police were called to the 600 block of Mulberry Street in reference to a domestic disturbance.  Police arrived on scene and were told that Keenan struck a family member during an argument.  Keenan was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was held pending the posting of bond.  Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff's Office.

Speeding Leads To Arrest Of Mt. Carmel Woman In Gibson County

On January 14, 2019, at 11:39 a.m. Gibson County Deputy Zach Lienemann and Sgt. Bruce Vanoven conducted a traffic stop on a Red 1999 Mercury Hatch back for speeding on US 41 near County Road 100 West. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Lienemann began a roadside investigation. At the conclusion of his investigation a female passenger was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail after drug paraphernalia was found on her. During his investigation the female provided a false name and identity in an attempt to conceal the fact that she had a parole hold out of Illinois. However during the booking process the female was identified as 25 year old Jennifer Jones of Mount Carmel, Illinois. Ms. Jones was charged with Possession of Paraphernalia and Deception. She remains in custody on the Illinois Department of Parole hold. 

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

WVC FOUNDATION HOSTING DINNER DANCE FEBRUARY 9

The Wabash Valley College Foundation will host its annual  Dinner Dance  on Saturday, February 9 in the Mabel A. Courter Youth Center Anderson Building.  Social Hour will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 7, with an evening of great music for dining and dancing from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m.   This event has become “the social event of the year” in the community and promises to be an elegant evening of exquisite dining and dancing to the great music of The Scott Mason Band.

No need to worry about what to give your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day!  Take your sweetheart to the Dinner Dance!  Tickets are $150 per couple, and single tickets are available.  Tickets are available from any Foundation Director or in the Administration/Foundation Building on the WVC Campus, or by calling Louise Acree at 263-4999, extension 3379.  In order to allow time for table seating arrangements, it is requested that tickets be purchased by Monday, February 4. 

While offering the community this opportunity to attend “the social event of the year,” the Foundation has raised nearly $300,000 with the Dinner Dance to help with WVC projects through the years.  The Foundation’s contributions to the capital development of the College include:  Purchase of the site for the WVC Campus, Applied Arts Building, Student Center, Bookstore, Physical Plant, Indoor Pool, Tennis Courts, Valley Gardens Dorms, International Building, Machine Shop Technology Building, Advanced Technology Center, Performing Arts, Lighting for Brubeck Arts Center Theatre, Commencement Receptions, Food Services Equipment, Biology Lab Renovation, Chemistry Lab Renovation, Library Materials, Linkage between WVC-TV and Cable TV, WVC-TV material, Parking Lots, Building Improvements, Athletic Fields,  Vehicles, Library Security System, Fitness Center, Electronic Marquee, Scholarship Program, Administration/Foundation Building, Amphitheatre, Foundation Donor Recognition Wall, and many ongoing projects. 

 

The 30-member Foundation Board also includes a Faculty Representative and Arts Council Representative as well as the President of the College.
