DALE, Ind. -- No more snacks, sodas, or bathroom breaks for people traveling on I-64 in Spencer County.
INDOT plans to close the Nancy Hanks Rest Area near Dale.
The rest stop is more than 30 years old and needs repairs that INDOT says would cost millions of dollars.
The state hasn't said when it will close for good.

A special Wabash County Commissioners meeting will be held Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the City of Mt Carmel Administration Building.
The meeting is being held for the purposes of “Negotiations between the City of Mt. Carmel, County of Wabash, and Wabash County Emergency Telephone System Board regarding the Law Enforcement Facility/Dispatch Agreement and the 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch Facility Agreement”.
The Mt. Carmel Police Department is investigating a burglary to the Mt. Carmel Taco Tierra. The burglary occurred on 12/29/2018 at approximately 11:43pm. Surveillance cameras show the suspect entering the rear of the building. The suspect grabbed an undetermined amount of cash before exiting the rear of the store. The suspect is then observed walking northeast from Taco Tierra. The Wabash County Crime Stoppers will pay $300.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. On 01.09.19 at 5:05 p.m. Deputy Keagan Bogard stopped to assist a male that was hitch hiking on Highway 1 near E 1200 Rd. Deputy Bogard attempted to stop the male and offer him a ride. The male identified as 60 year old Thomas E. Graves of Mt. Carmel, became belligerent and uncooperative with the deputy. Graves was cited for hitchhiking and taken into custody and charged with resisting a peace officer. Graves is currently waiting for a first appearance in Wabash County Court for a bail setting.
On 01.03.19 Franklin A. Schrader turned himself in on a Wabash County warrant for an original charge of Domestic Battery. Schrader's warrant stems from an incident on 10.16.18 where Schrader is charged with committing a battery at the Wabash County Courthouse following a court hearing. Schrader was released on a $500 cash bond.
On 01.02.19 at 9:20 a.m. Troy A. Hinderliter, 52 of Mt. Carmel was taken into custody at the Wabash County Courthouse for an original charge of Violation of an Order of Protection warrant. The warrant was issued for an incident on 12.20.18 where Hinderliter is accused of having contact with a prohibited party. Hinderliter posted $1,000 cash bail and was released.
On 01.01.19 at 10:06 a.m. the Wabash County Sheriff's Office went to a rural Wabash County residence to investigate a report of a domestic battery. Later that day around 1:00 p.m. 40 year old Joshua K. Horrall was taken into custody. Horrall was charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery with Bond being set at $5,000 cash. Horrall later posted bond and was released.
Students in Wabash #348 Schools, Allendale Schools, and St. Mary’s School will be dismissed three hours early on Friday, January 18, 2019 in order for staff to participate in School Improvement activities.
Also Wabash #348 Schools, Allendale Schools, and St. Mary’s School will have no school on Monday, January 21, 2019 in honor of Martin Luther King’s Birthday.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 31 year old Joshua S. Baker of Mt. Carmel after police received information that he was wanted on a Lawrence County warrant for violation of an order of protection. Police located Baker in the 800 block of W. 3rd Street and placed under arrest. Baker was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of bond or transfer to Lawrence County.
