Christmas Break Schedule for Wabash County Schools

Wabash District #348 will dismiss 2 hours early on December 19, 2018 and return to school on January 3, 2019.

Allendale Schools will dismiss 2 hours early on December 21, 2018 and return to school on January 3, 2019.

St. Mary’s School’s last day before break is December 21, 2018.  There will be no buses running on December 20th and December 21st.  They will return to school on January 3, 2019.

WGH Cuts Ribbon On New Albion Clinic

Wabash General Hospital and community leaders gathered in Albion this afternoon for the grand opening of the new clinic.

Dr. Levi McDaniel is an Edwards County native and he said the new Albion Clinic is a “dream come true.”

Nurse practitioner Valerie Anderson will see patients every weekday while Dr. McDaniel will be at the clinic on Tuesdays.

IECC Board Of Trustees Meeting Recap

 The Board of Trustees of Illinois Eastern Community College District No. 529 met Tuesday night, December 11th at Frontier Community College, Fairfield, Illinois.

                Dates, times and meeting location were set for regular monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees for the 2019 calendar year.  The Board will meet on the third Tuesday of each month, except December, when it will meet on the second Tuesday of the month.  The dates were approved as follows:

                Approval was given for agreements with Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, to offer Motorcycle Rider Training courses at all four of the IECC colleges, Frontier Community College in Fairfield, Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Olney Central College in Olney, and Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel. 

An agreement was approved with Fairfield Memorial Hospital in the event the hospital was involved in a disaster, Illinois Eastern Community College/Frontier Community College, would agree to assist Fairfield Memorial Hospital in any way possible. 

Trustees also approved an agreement with Wabash Area Development Incorporated (WADI) for Wabash Valley College’s Small World.  Under the on-going agreement, each party will work collaboratively to screen and select Pre-Kindergarten children and refer children to each other’s programs and obtain parental consent when required. 

                Affiliation agreements were approved with Crawford Memorial Hospital, Clay County Hospital, and Wabash General Hospital for health related programs.             

                The semi-annual review of closed meeting minutes was conducted as required by the Illinois Open Meetings Act.

                 The Board approved employment of Laurie Perry as Administrative Assistant at the District Office, effective January 14, 2019.  Change in status was approved for Ashley Bigard from Academic Advisor at OCC to Title III Advising Specialist effective January 14, 2019.  A change in status was approved for Paul Zeilstra Jr. from Technology Support Specialist at the District Office to Information Systems Technology Specialist, Title III effective January 14, 2019. 

               Three incumbent board members filed for three seats on the IECC Board during the seven-day filing period, which began December 10th.  Filing for the three six year terms up for election are board members John Brooks, Al Henager, and James Lane.  The election will be held April 2, 2019.

                 Next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 7 p.m. at Olney Central College, Olney.

NY's Eve Blood Drive Planned At MCHS

The Mt. Carmel High School National Honor Society is sponsoring a New Years Eve Blood Drive. The drive will be held in the Senior parking lot at MCHS.  The mobile van will be set up from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM with 19 time slots available to fill.  Mt. Carmel High School continues to work with the American Red Cross with our continued support and education towards the numerous benefits of donating blood.  The American Red Cross gives back to MCHS by providing scholarship money to members of our graduating class.  The more units collected by MCHS the more monetary award available to our students.  The scholarship money awarded last year was $750, this year our goal is $1000.  To accomplish this MCHS must collect at least 151 pints over the course of the school year.  Please consider the gift of giving.   You may schedule yourself by going to www.redcrossblood.org and search for Mt. State Farm Makes $5,000 Donation To Wabash County Sheriff's Department

State Farm Corporate has approved a donation to the Wabash County Sheriff’s office that will be used for impaired driving education materials.  Sheriff Derek Morgan submitted a proposal and the money will be used in part to buy “drunk goggles” and a small pedal car designed for this purpose.  It would be used on an obstacle course at the high school and other venues.

 The specific program that this $5,000 will be used to purchase is the “Fatal Vision Roadster” program.

Driving With No Valid License Lands Mt. Carmel Woman In Jail

12/12/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 23 year old Addasyn G. Wallbaum after she was observed operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.  Wallbaum was stopped in the 300 block of W. 5th Street and placed into custody.  Wallbaum was transported  to the Wabash County Jail where she was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.  Wallbaum was held pending the posting of bond.

Mt. Carmel Woman Jailed On FTA Warrant

12/12/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 22 year old Kristina Bredemeier of Mt. Carmel after police stopped by the MCPD Officer's.  During the traffic stop it was discovered that Bredemeier was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant.  Bredemeier was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was served the warrant and held pending the posting of $200.00 cash bond.

Indiana Woman Jailed On Drug Charges

12/12/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 37 year old Heather D. Orange of Richland, Indiana after the vehicle she operating was stopped in the area of S. Walnut and Southgate Drive.  During the traffic stop K-9 Ace arrived and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.  Orange was arrested after police located drug items and a controlled substance in the vehicle.  Orange was taken to the Wabash County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a hypodermic needle.  Orange was held pending the posting of bond.
