Man On Bike Picked Up For Possession Of Meth

12/12/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 53 year old Lawrence Jason Byrns of Mt. Carmel after he was stopped by officers in the area of 5th and Poplar Street.  Byrns was stopped for a traffic violation while operating a bicycle.  During the stop police found Byrns to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle.  Byrns was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a hypodermic needle.  Byrns was held pending the posting of bond.

ISP November Activity & Enforcement Report

Illinois State Police District 19 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, announced today activity and enforcement figures for the month of November. Troopers in District 19, which includes Wabash, Edwards, Wayne, White, Hamilton, Saline, and Gallatin Counties, recorded 1,212 incidents during the month.

Enforcement activity consisted of 492 citations and 823 written warnings, including 314 speeding citations, 3 DUIs, 66 occupant restraint citations, 6 criminal arrests, and 289 written warnings for speeding. Troopers also assisted 68 motorists, conducted 188 Motor Carrier Safety Inspections, and investigated 64 traffic crashes. There were no fatal traffic crashes investigated by District 19 during November.

Moreover, District 19 issued 389 citations and 332 written warnings for “Fatal Four” violations. These violations are most associated with fatal traffic crashes and include DUI, Speeding, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, and Distracted Driving.

WVC’S STUDENT SENATE DELIVERS FOOD ITEMS TO WADI

Last week Wabash Valley College Student Senate members delivered over 3,000 non-perishable food items to the Wabash Area Development (WADI) Food Pantry in Mt. Carmel.

The items were collected during the month-long Food Drive which is run as a competition between clubs on campus. Congratulations to the Ag Tech Club who captured the prize in this year’s competition and will receive a “Pizza Party” for their efforts from Student Senate!

Student Senate members were pleased that the delivery of the food items was just in time to help those in need this holiday season.

According to Faculty Sponsor Kyle Peach, the 3,000+ items donated is believed to be a new “WVC record.”

Caddell Sentenced To 4 1/2 Years On Aggravated Domestic Battery Charge

Cassandra A. Goldman, Wabash County State's Attorney, reports that Daniel R. Caddell, a 40-year old Mt. Carmel, Illinois man, was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Circuit Judge Christopher L. Weber in Wabash County Circuit Court.

State's Attorney Goldman advises that the Defendant was charged November 7, 2018, with Aggravated Domestic Battery, a Class 2 Felony. Mr. Caddell was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections, to be followed by four years of mandatory supervised release (parole). He will have to serve 85% of his sentence.

FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF OFFENSE:

That on the 1st day of November, 2018, in Wabash County, Illinois, the Defendant, DANIEL R. CADDELL, committed the offense of AGGRAVATED DOMESTIC BATTERY, in that said Defendant knowingly without legal justification caused bodily harm to (NAME REDACTED), with whom the Defendant has a dating relationship, in that he strangled (NAME REDACTED) by intentionally impeding her normal breathing or circulation of blood by applying pressure on her throat, in violation of 720 ILCS 5/12-3.3(a-5). A CLASS 2 FELONY

Evansville Man Arrested after Early Morning Chase

Vanderburgh County – Early this morning at approximately 2:00, Trooper Tyler Widner attempted to stop Rasheen Middleton, 30, of Evansville, for a license plate violation on Diamond Avenue near First Avenue. Middleton failed to stop and continued south on Fulton Avenue reaching approximately 100 mph. The vehicle continued south on SE Riverside Drive until coming to a final rest at Oak Street after driving over a concrete median. Middleton fled on foot, but he was located in a nearby garage by an Evansville Police K-9 unit. He was taken to the Vanderburgh County where he is currently being held without bond.

MCPD Arrest Underage Pair For Possession Of Alcohol & Drug Paraphernalia

12/11/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested two individuals on alcohol charges after police were called to their residence in the 500 block of N. Walnut Street.  Police were investigating a disturbance and found Caleb A. Bates and Gabrielle R. Bates, both 19, in possession of an alcoholic beverage and drug paraphernalia.  Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where they received possession of alcohol citations along with possession of drug paraphernalia citations.  Both subjects were released after being processed.

FTA Warrant Lands Mt. Carmel Man In Jail

12/10/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 40 year old Jason L. Cox of Mt. Carmel after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped by MCPD.  Police noticed Cox was a passenger in a 2012 Chevrolet and knew he had a Wabash County failure to appear warrant.  Cox was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of bond.

Mt. Carmel Man Picked Up On FTA Warrant

12/07/2018-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 27 year old James E. Harms of Mt. Carmel after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped by MCPD.  During the traffic stop it was discovered that Harms was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant.  Harms was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was served the warrant and written a citation for failure to wear a seat belt.
