WVC-VU Clash Wednesday Night In Mt. Carmel

The place to be for some exciting basketball Wednesday evening (15th) is the Spencer Sports Center on the campus of Wabash Valley College. 

The WVC basketball teams will be hosting Vincennes University.  All four teams are ranked in the NJCAA Preseason Poll.  That’s a FIRST!

The VU men are ranked 4th in the nation while the WVC men are 24th.  The WVC women are 15th while the VU women are 22nd.

At 5:30 the Lady Warriors 3-0 will take on the Lady Trailblazers 3-2.

At 7:30 it will be the Warriors at 3-1 playing the 5-0 Trailblazers.

St. Mary's Lady Rockets

On Monday, November 13th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets hosted the Owensville Lady Kickapoos. In the 8th grade game, St. Mary’s defeated Owensville, 40 - 28. St. Mary’s led 5 - 4 at the end of the first quarter; 13 - 12 at halftime; and 31 - 14 at the end of the third quarter. St. Mary’s outscored Owensville 18 – 2 in the third quarter to help secure the win. Savannah Zimmerman scored 18 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Mady Young added 12 points, Olivia Stinson 6 points, and Emma Keepes 4 points. Owensville was led in scoring by Maddie Kautzman with 16 points.

The Lady Rockets defeated the Lady Kickapoos in the 7th grade game, 23 - 12. The Lady Rockets led 9 - 0 at the end of the first quarter; 17 - 0 at halftime; and 19 - 10 at the end of the third quarter. Eden Wankel led St. Mary’s in scoring with 6 points. Lindy Rafferty added 4 points, Nora Jones 4 points, Lauren Hall 2 points, Anna Gill 2 points, Mady Young 2 points, Madison Stevens 2 points, and Lexi Stevens 1 point. Also seeing playing time were Olivia Trimble, Nevada Brown, Sarah McCorkle, Kali Walker, and Ava Turner.

St. Mary’s will be back home on Friday, November 17th, hosting Jasper Grade School in WEAA Conference action. The 7th grade game will begin at 6:00 pm, with the 8th grade game to follow.

WVC Lady Warriors

The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors won on the road again Friday night as they defeated a very good State Fair ball club at Poplar Bluff Missouri in the Three Rivers Classic. Final score was 64 to 55 with WVC now at 2-0 on the season and the Lady Roadrunners are 2-2.

Coach Luke Scheidecker would play nine players and eight of the nine would score. Only two Lady Warriors were in double figures led by Mariah McCully with 26 points and Gabi Baldridge would add 10 and she picked up a double double with 10 rebounds.

WVC will play the host Three Rivers on Saturday afternoon at 3 PM.

WVC Warriors

The Warrior Classic at WVC found Wabash Valley and Olney Central winners in the first round of play. Olney Central came from behind tied the score at the end of regulation and then won in overtime over Danville Area College 96 to 90. Olney is now 3-0 on the season Danville Area is 1-1.

Wabash Valley had a battle with West Kentucky Tech but came out on top 113 to 94. Tyresse Williford was one of seven Warriors in double figures with 18 while Austin Trice had 17 and a double double with 21 rebounds. WVC is 3-0 on the season while WKT is 3-3.
At 1 PM Saturday it will be Olney Central taking on West Kentucky Tech and 3 Pm it will be WVC playing DAC. Coach Mike Carpenter was head coach at DAC for several years and the head coach at DAC DaJuan Gouard was his assistant. So more to this game than most.

St. Mary’s Lady Rockets hosted the Ft. Branch Lady Twigs

On Tuesday, November 7th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets hosted the Ft. Branch Lady Twigs. In the 8th grade game, St. Mary’s defeated Ft. Branch, 41 - 25. St. Mary’s led 10 - 6 at the end of the first quarter; 21 - 7 at halftime; and 39 - 13 at the end of the third quarter. Savannah Zimmerman scored 21 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Eden Wankel added 6 points, Emma Keepes 6 points, Olivia Stinson 4 points, and Maleah Armstrong 4 points. Ft. Branch was led in scoring by Holmes with 9 points.

Ft. Branch defeated St. Mary’s in the 7th grade game, 34 - 16. The Lady Rockets trailed 8 – 1 at the end of the first quarter; 21 - 8 at halftime; and 24 -13 at the end of the third quarter. Lauren Hall led St. Mary’s in scoring with 8 points. Nora Jones scored 3 points, Lexi Stevens 2 points, Lindy Rafferty 2 points, and Eden Wankel 1 point. Also seeing playing time were Anna Gill, Olivia Trimble, Nevada Brown, Sarah McCorkle, Kali Walker, Madison Stevens, and Ava Turner. Fleetwood led the Lady Twigs with 8 points.

St. Mary’s will participate in the Meet the Lady Aces and the Future Lady Aces event on Thursday, November 9th, at the High School, 6:30pm. St. Mary’s will be back home on, Monday, November 13th, hosting Owensville with the 7th grade game beginning at 6:00 pm, with the 8th grade game to follow.

Last night the St. Mary’s Rockets took on the New Hebron Eagles

Last night the St. Mary’s Rockets took on the New Hebron Eagles. In the junior varsity matchup the Eagles defeated the Rockets by a score of 52-13. Leading the scoring for the Rockets was Asher Coston with 4 points, Jesse Brogan with 4 points, Elliott Acree with 2 points, Eric Acree with 2 points, and Tobias Fullop with 1 point. Also receiving playing time for the Rockets was James Martin, Reed Stinson, Kasen Dulgar, Blake Strine, Brady Porter.

In the varsity match-up the Rockets were defeated by the Eagles by a score of 50-18. Leading the scoring for the Rockets was Elliott Acree with 11 points, Gehrig Jones with 6 points, and Jesse Brogan with 1 point. Also receiving playing time for the Rockets was James Martin, Eric Acree, Tobias Fullop, and Reed Stinson. The Rockets next game is a home game Thursday against Cisne with the C-game starting at 5:15.
