Guy W. “Butch” Alspach, 77

Guy W. “Butch” Alspach, 77, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at home. He was born on December 15, 1944, in Gary, Indiana, the son of Guy and Helen (Land) Alspach.

Butch was a hard worker and always stayed busy. He loved to tinker and to take something old and make it new. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, and fishing. Butch owned classic cars and in his free time, he enjoyed attending car shows and listening to Elvis. He held a black belt in Karate and served as a Karate Instructor. He loved helping others perfect their skills in martial arts. Butch worked as an oil refinery inspector for many years. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Illinois. Butch will be missed by his family and friends.

Butch leaves behind his children, Bradley (Teresa) Alspach, Leah (Jeremy) Mahrenholz, and Gina (Richard) Wells; nine grandchildren; Audrey (Zach) Manuel, Clarissa (Alex) Kerney, Christopher Wells, Kylie Wells, Chloe (Adrian) Case, Julian Case, Journey Mahrenholz, True Mahrenholz, and Jessica Burgett; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Teresa) Alspach; two sisters, Donna Fischer, and Rita (Gary) Koontz; several nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Merlyn Groff.

In keeping with Butch’s wishes, cremation rites will take place and no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Kristy Lynn Curtis, 41

Kristy Lynn Curtis, 41, of Staunton, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the home of her parents in Bellmont, Illinois.  She was born on April 1, 1981, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of Patrick and Barbara (Wood) Curtis.

Kristy loved life and to have a good time.  She was often the life of the party at gatherings.  She enjoyed bingo and always looked forward to attending.  Kristy had an artistic flair.  She liked tattoos, enjoyed working with diamond art jewels and adult coloring books.  She liked to go fishing when she could.  During her illness, she would work Sudoku puzzles for hours on end.  Kristy loved her family dearly and was very proud of her children.  She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.  

Kristy leaves behind her daughter, Harley Curtis; two sons, Aaron and Austin Curtis; parents, Patrick and Barbara Curtis; one brother, Jeremy (Shana) Curtis; grandmother, Frances Williams; aunts, Diana (Mike) Grisham, Judith (Lloyd Wood) Williams, Elizabeth (Nathan) Litherland, Roberta Vasquez, Beth (Roland) Bustillos, Virginia (Ruben) Cuellar; one uncle, Brian Williams; several great aunts and uncles and cousins. 

Kristy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Lindell Curtis, Harry Williams, David and Janet Wood.

Charles Albert Speaks, 83

Charles Albert Speaks, 83, of Albion, Illinois passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Charlie was born March 20, 1939, the son of J. Albert and Georgia A. (Perdue) Speaks in Henderson, Kentucky. He attended Holy Name High School in Henderson and University of Kentucky. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #590 in Albion, Illinois.

He married Donna Rude on December 28, 1984, in Henderson, Kentucky. He worked as a Warehouse Supervisor for Whirlpool, Inc. for thirty-seven years. He retired December 1, 1994. He loved his life on the farm and was a member of Edwards County Farm Bureau. Charlie was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, following the games whenever he could.

Charlie was a member and deacon of St. Mary Church of Mt. Carmel and St. Sebastian Catholic Church of Belmont, Illinois. Recently with his wife, he celebrated twenty-five years as a permanent deacon. He studied for seven years prior to being ordained. They attended the 50th anniversary of the permanent diaconate in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was active in Cursillo. Charles was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving 4th Degree status, the highest degree of the organization. Charles was an active reader of religious and western books.

Those left to cherish Charlie’s memory are his wife, Donna; daughter Amy Joyce Hamilton and husband Rob of Muncie, Indiana; a granddaughter, Kimbra; great grandchildren; and siblings, Leo (Debbie) Speaks, John Speaks, and Patricia Smith, all of Henderson, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 125 West Fifth Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. The Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be said Friday, May 27, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Burial with full military rites will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Albion, Illinois.

Phyllis L. Green, 84

Phyllis L. Green, 84, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois was granted an audience with her precious Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. In witness were her biggest fans and the loves of her life, her children.

She was born November 24, 1937, the daughter of Estol and Sylvia (Chanley) Perry in Wabash County, Mt. Carmel Illinois. She was the third child and only girl surrounded by six brothers who both adored and feared her.

She was a graduate of  Mt. Carmel High School. She retired from SnapOn Tools after thirty plus years working as a tool inspector.

Phyllis  was devoted to her family. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, fanatical Skip-Bo player, enjoyed Nascar, reading, doing puzzles and gardening. Nothing was more dear to her than spending time with family.

Left to cherish Phyllis’ memory are her children, Pamela (Rob) Heddon of Paducah Kentucky, David M. (Corrinna) Green of Mt. Carmel, Jackie G. Baumgart of Mt. Linda Jean Mills, 77

Linda Jean Mills, 77, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at home surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on November 29, 1944 at home in Allendale, Illinois, the daughter of Harvey and Mary (House) Gard.  Linda married Edward Mills on July 14, 1962 and together they enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage centered on their family.

Linda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.   She loved caring for others and spent several years as a nurse until retirement.  She also worked as a cook at the K of C Hall in Mount Carmel where she made many friendships.  Linda enjoyed being in her kitchen; cooking and baking for others.  She was the happiest when she was together with family having family dinners and cookouts.  Linda’s favorite place was being at the beach.  She loved to sit on the back deck and listen to the waves, and watch the dolphins.  Linda also found peace walking the beach and looking for seashells.  Linda will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Linda will be remembered by her loving husband, Ed Mills of Allendale; daughter, Janice Winschief and husband, Kevin; son, Larry Mills and wife, April; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Gary Gard and wife, Darla; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky Mills; and brother, Phillip Gard.

A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022, Allendale Cemetery with Pastor Kevin McGinnis officiating.

Nola Nathalie Hinderliter, 87

Nola Nathalie Hinderliter, 87, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Monday, May 16, 2022 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Nola was born September 18, 1934 in Gibson County, Indiana, the daughter of Babel and Mildred (Williams) McClellan. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She married George Richard Hinderliter in Mt. Carmel. She was a homemaker and loved time spent raising her family.

Left to cherish Nola’s memory are her daughter, Vicki Wilcox of Avon, Indiana; her sons, Dan (Jessie) Hinderliter, George M. (Clarissa) Hinderliter and James R. Hinderliter all of Mt. Carmel; sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and sister Dora Owen of Carmi, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of sixty-two years, George Richard Hinderliter; son, Richard M. Hinderliter; daughter, Debbie Reed; sisters, Judy Davis, Lillian Fatherly, and Louise Wilhite.

Homer L. Majors, 90

Homer L. Majors, 90, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, May 14,2022 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 26, 1931, in Mount Carmel, the son of Amos and Christina (Keneipp) Majors. He married D’Ella Meyer on November 21, 1953, and together they have celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage.

Homer faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked for Snap-On-Tools for twenty-five years and also was district manager for Arab Pest Control for fifty years. Homer enjoyed his work with Arab and all the people he came to know. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go fishing, hunting and camping. Woodworking was his favorite hobby, along with attending area auctions. He belonged to the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge #239. Homer was a member of Asbury Chapel. He was a very kind man who loved his family dearly and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Homer leaves behind his loving wife, D’Ella; four sons, Les (Mary) Majors, Robert (Carolyn) Majors, Jon (Cathy Knapp) Majors, Ernie (Mindy) Majors; two daughters, Linda (Robert) Compton and Cathy (Jeremy) Dooley; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Sharon Majors; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald Eugene “Donnie” Jackson, 70

Donald Eugene “Donnie” Jackson, 70, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 14, 1951, in Carmi, Illinois, the oldest of seven children born to Gene “Bud” and Hazel (Robbins) Jackson. He married Betty Moore on December 11, 1986, and together they have enjoyed thirty-five years of marriage.

Donnie treasured his family the most. He always looked forward to spending time with them whenever he could and felt blessed to work alongside his dad, and brothers, T.A. and Jimmy at Nalco. His grandchildren were very special to him, therefore being an avid Mt. Carmel Aces fan, he and Betty rarely missed a game the grandchildren were playing, no matter which sport it was. Donnie was an outdoorsman who enjoyed natures beauty, fishing, and especially deer hunting with his baby sister, Lisa. He loved taking long car rides with his sweetheart, Betty. Donnie was a member of Heartland Worship Center and loved his church family dearly. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Donnie leaves behind his loving wife, Betty; children, Michele Wagner and husband Mark, Kim Pearson and husband Barry both of Mount Carmel, Don Garrett and wife Tricia of Evansville, IN; three bonus children, Dawn Baxley and husband John, Jason York and wife Kendra, and Amanda York; six grandchildren; ten bonus grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine bonus great-grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Beth) Jackson, Jim (Donna) Jackson, T. Karen Jean Mundy, 63

Karen Jean Mundy, 63, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Oakview Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation with Gary by her side.

She was born October 31, 1958, the daughter of Billy and Mary Alyce Rodgers Faith in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Karen graduated from Allendale High School in the Class of 1976.  She received an associate degree from Wabash Valley College.

Karen loved her job, of 19 years until her retirement in 2012, at Mt. Carmel Stabilization. She enjoyed traveling, golf and being outside.

Left to cherish Karen’s memory is her significant other Gary Wise; brothers, Michael Faith of South Dakota, and Mark (Jennifer) Faith of Vermont; Aunt Jean and Uncle Harold Borg of Aurora, Illinois; and two nieces.

Preceding Karen in death were her parents and husband, William G. Mundy.

There will be no public visitation. Graveside services will be held, Friday, May 13, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

William Grant “Bill” Cotner III, 73

William Grant “Bill” Cotner III ,73, loving father, grandpa, and friend, passed away on May 9, 2022, after a long battle with lung cancer.

He was born on August 6, 1948, in Mt. Carmel, son of Willie (Smith) Cotner and William Grant Cotner II. He graduated in the Class of 1966 from Mt. Carmel High School.

Bill loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy came in raising, training, and spending time with his beloved dogs. He served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1971. During that time, he served in the Military Police training dogs in the K-9 unit and guarding strategic military installations. While active, he was stationed at West Point Military Academy, as well as the Nike Missile Battery in Fairbanks, Alaska, which only deepened his love and respect for nature and the outdoors.

Bill worked in construction and owned his own business, Cotner Construction, for many years. He loved working with his hands and always had anywhere from 1 to 500 “projects” going on around the house at any given time. His favorite mottos were “measure twice, cut once” or “close enough!” Bill was a member of the First Christian Church of Mt. Carmel, IL. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving Bill are his children, Kathrina (Jack) Dubnicek, Maria (Kipp) Bates, Billy (Becky) Cotner, and Hannah (Zach) Simms; grandchildren Ava and Olivia Dubnicek, Cameron and Madi Bates, Natalie (Jeseph) Meyers, Jackson and Sophie Cotner, and Josiah and Jia Simms. Also surviving is his sister, Adah Neigh, and beloved cousin, Rian (Karen) Waterbury. Preceding him in death were his parents.

Visitation for Bill will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, with graveside services following at 1:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, East 11th and Plum Streets.

Beth Ann Seals, 60

Beth Ann Seals, 60, of Ellery, Illinois, departed from her earthly home and went to be with Jesus at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022. She was born on August 9, 1961, in Fairfield, Illinois, the daughter of Delmar and Ina Lee (Mitchell) Sample. She married Johnathan Matthew Seals on August 29, 1980, and together they have enjoyed forty-one years of love filled marriage.

Beth devoted her life to Christ, her family, and friends. Her faith brought her through her battles with cancer over the last four and a half years. She is now reunited in heaven with her son Ean. Beth always had a beautiful smile and won the hearts of many people throughout her lifetime. Beth valued her many years working at Citizens National Bank of Albion. She treasured her group of friends from the bank and also the relationships she had with customers. Beth was active in the Bethel United Methodist Church and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Beth leaves behind her loving husband, Matt; daughter, Emily Perkins and husband Greg of Indianapolis, IN; daughter-in-law, Lindsay Seals-Sargeant of Washington, IN; three grandchildren, Henry and Charlotte Perkins, Samuel Sargeant; brother, Ronnie (Carol) Sample; sisters, Joy (David) Coles, Cathy (Wayne) Provines; father-in-law, Gene Seals; and several loved nieces and nephews.

Beth was preceded in death by her son, Ean Jacob Seals who passed away August 19, 2017; parents, Delmar and Ina Lee Sample; mother-in-law, Sue Ellen Seals.

Amy Amanda Shea, 38

Amy Amanda Shea, 38, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 30, 1983 in Evansville, IN, the daughter of George Shea and Janice Hudson.

Amy will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend to many. She had many health issues throughout her life but always remained positive. On her trips to daily dialysis treatments, she would always bless a homeless person with a meal and a smile. Amy loved her family and treasured her time with her children. She loved doing arts and crafts; while making memories with her children. Amy was happiest at home on her back porch with a cup of coffee enjoying the outdoors. She also enjoyed listening to rap music and swimming when she was able. Amy loved animals especially her dog who she spoiled with feeding her candy. Amy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Amy will be remembered by her son, Riley Rayborn; daughter, Makiya Shea; father, George Shea; mother, Janice (Robert) Hudson; sisters, Carie (Brandon) Weir, and Tiffany (Jason) Byrns; brother, Brett Hudson; paternal grandmother, Ethel “Jane” (Gray) Shea of Omro, WI; maternal grandmother, June Angel of PA; nephews, Noah Weir and Hunter Byrns; nieces, Maddisyn Weir, and Kenzie Byrns; many loved cousins and friends.

Virginia Swatsley, 97

Virginia Swatsley, 97, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on July 13, 1924, ion Malden, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Eustina (Cox) Cook. She married Bobby Ray Swatsley on July 3, 2004, and together they have enjoyed seventeen years of marriage.

Virginia was a loving homemaker. She found peace at home and loved to swing on her front porch with her husband. When she was able, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Virginia was a member of the Lighthouse Church in Grayville, Illinois. She was faithful in her walk with the Lord, and she enjoyed daily morning devotions with Bob, even up to her last day. Virginia will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mirenda, “Mindy” Rose (Orrel) Newsum, 44

Mirenda, “Mindy” Rose (Orrel) Newsum, 44, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022, at home with her loving family and friends by her side.  She was born on May 3, 1977, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Michael and Nancy (Strine) Orrel of West Salem, Illinois.  She married Nathan Newsum on September 5, 1998, at the Moravian Church in West Salem Illinois, and they had one son, Cody Michael, who was her pride and joy.

Mindy was a 1995 graduate of Edwards County High School.  She graduated from the nursing program at Wabash Valley College in 1998 and went to work at Gibson General Hospital until her health would no longer allow.   Mindy was a woman of great strength.  She won a hard-fought battle with cancer twenty-one years ago and has lived with the debilitating effects of the treatments that saved her life.   Mindy lived her life to the fullest, believing God had a purpose for her life.  Rainbows had special meaning to Mindy and always brought happiness to her heart.  She was very caring and compassionate to everyone she knew.  She enjoyed crafting and baking lots of sweet treats and always loved delivering plates full of goodies to friends and family, especially during the holidays.  Spending time with her family and friends was time she treasured most.  She was a life-long member of the West Salem Moravian Church.  Mindy was loved by all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.

Mindy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John, and Rosemary Strine; paternal grandparents, Bob Orrel, and Norma Jean Orrel; uncle, Gary Orrel; and father-in-law, Ron Newsum.

John Jerome Reburn, 87

John Jerome Reburn, 87, was welcomed into the Gates of Heaven on April 23, 2022. A lifelong resident of Mt. Carmel, John was born at home on January 12, 1935 to William Gordia Reburn and Viola (Engle) Reburn. He acquired his affectionate nickname ‘Doc’ after the doctor who delivered him into this world. A lifelong member of St. Mary’s parish, Doc was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, Oakland City College, and a veteran of the Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Ly Reburn; daughters Julie (Mike) Mann, Kris (JD) Bromm, and Kim (Nick) Bellessa; grandchildren Katie Bellessa, Jillian (Justin) Mink, Aaron (Luke) Jablonski, Bryce Mann, Johnathon Mann, Gabrielle Bromm, and Clayton Mann; great granddaughters Valerie Mink and Vivienne Mink; his older sister, Georgianna Boesdorfer, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Bill Reburn, Earl Reburn, Mary Andrews, Frances Sharp, Jean Brewer, and Chuck Reburn.

Doc Reburn was popular around town for his larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and overall positive demeanor. A well established and notorious force-of-nature to those he believed in, Doc was equally a force-of-nature to those he did not. Well known to be a champion and motivator to Mt. Carmel’s youth, Doc was a district school teacher and boys’ basketball coach for over 30 years. He later went on to coach the Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors. His passion for winning the game was a palpable expectation of his players, and an equally transparent display to their foes. His resolute support for MCHS football was evident by his uninterrupted attendance for over 70 years, rarely missing a game regardless of wind, snow, hail or rain. Having grown up disadvantaged during the Great Depression, Doc’s compassion and kindness to the less fortunate children he taught in school was ingrained.

Doc’s competitive nature also spilled over to the golf course. He was a two-time champion of the couples’ Mt. Carmel Oil Patch Golf Classic and winner of several men’s individual golf tournaments. Doc also achieved a hole-in-one on the number two hole, twice. He was a marshal for the 2003 U.S. Open with Tiger Woods at Olympia Fields, IL Country Club, and a 1989 marshal for the PGA Championship with Payne Stewart, Kemper Lakes IL Golf Club. His love for the

Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears was pronounced. His disdain for the St. Louis Cardinals was proportionate.

His personality was unwavering.

A devoted grandfather, Doc spent summers taking his grandchildren caving, fishing, golfing, and eating out. He introduced them to golf and music and took great pride in sharing his love for Elvis Presley and Tom Jones. He was extremely influential on his grandson, Clayton Mann, becoming a Nashville artist. Doc enjoyed one final moment on stage, summer of 2021, singing his two favorites with Clayton, his alpha and omega songs: “All Shook Up” by Elvis Presley and “Green Green Grass of Home” by Tom Jones. His adoration for his namesake, US Marine Veteran Johnathon Mann (John Boy) was elevated yet understood. His fondness for his great granddaughters, Valerie and Vivienne, was tender and warm-hearted. He very much enjoyed “FaceTime” with them and became an expert on purchasing girls’ foofy dresses.

Doc Reburn relished the simple things in life, but he did nothing simply.

Doc did everything with passion, pride, commitment, and devotion.

A life well-lived, Doc Reburn simply did everything … ‘his way.’

Our family love, affection, and remembrance of him is immense and without end.

“Papaw was larger-than-life, cooler than cool.

I hope heaven’s grass is Augusta green and you get to hear Elvis sing.”

A Catholic Mass and celebration of life is tentatively scheduled for June 14, 2022 as Doc’s family awaits the birth of his third great granddaughter and anticipated return of his deployed US Marine grandson, Michael Bryce Mann.

Judy K. Delgado, 82

Judy K. Delgado, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 28, 1939, in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Scott and Goldie (Wirth) Reedus.

Judy was raised on the family farm where she learned the value of helping others and working hard. She graduated with an Associate Degree from Evansville Business College and went to work in the bookkeeping and secretarial field. Judy worked many years as a bookkeeper for McCuistin Distributing, and Donahue Oil Company. She also worked for ten years with the Senior Assistance program caring for the elderly. Judy was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed attending the grandkid’s and great-grandkids local games and was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys. Judy was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Wabash Career Women organization, and a lifetime member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church. Judy was very kind and a friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Judy leaves behind one son, Tony Delgado, and wife Jane; grandchildren; Carl Pierce, Corey (Jenny) Pierce, Tim (Cheyenne) Pierce and Devin Pierce; sixteen great-grandchildren, Brylie, Brailyn, Anthony, Courtney, Anastasia, Miranda, Devon, Alivia, Chase, Presleigh, Isaac, Caleb, Sloan, Cambria, Trace and Kole; sister-in-law, Jane Reedus; nieces, Abbey Myers, Allison Snyder, Kelly Berezin; nephew, Dustin Reedus; great nephew, Kale Myers; great nieces, Layla Myers, Samantha Snyder; and special friend, Ada Tolley.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Mike, and Richard Reedus; uncles, Bill, and Ned Reedus and one aunt, Kathleen Reedus.

Dennis E. Wallace, 67

Dennis E. Wallace, 67, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away April 5, 2022, at Abbington Hospital in Lansdale, PA.

He was born February 27, 1955, to Darce “Doc” Wallace and Olive Lee (McGuire) Wallace.

He is survived by daughter, Stacey (Bernie) Bilenki of Evansville, IN and son, Jason Wallace, of Mt. Carmel, IL; his stepdaughters, Colleen (Kenneth Brockington) McFadden, and Bridgett Land and their five children; five grandchildren: Austin Davis, Jagger Baird, McKinzy Wallace, Gabriel Wallace, and Jasper Godshall. He is also survived by three brothers: David (Franca) Wallace, of Clarksville, TN, Devon Wallace, of St. Louis, MO, and Shane (Jenny) Elkins, of Newburgh, IN; three sisters: Dianne Millican, of Channelview, TX, Trena (Ray)Adkins, of Jackson, TN, and Rita (Frank) Speiser, Jacksonville, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dwain Wallace, his sister, Debra Rayborn, his brother-in-law, David Rayborn, his ex-wife, Brenda McClellan, and his longtime companion, Janet McFadden.

Iris Kay Smith, 78

Iris Kay Smith, 78, of Keensburg, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2022, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on December 12, 1943, in Friendsville, Illinois, the daughter of Norman and Virginia (McClellan) McClane.  She was married for sixty wonderful years to her husband, Jerry Lee Smith, and he survives.

Iris devoted herself to being a loving homemaker and raising her family.  She really enjoyed the outdoors, tending to her lovely flower garden and sitting on her porch to watch the birds and squirrels feed.  Iris was a hobbyist who enjoyed making jewelry for her family and friends, cooking a good meal, and writing cookbooks.  The Smokey Mountains was her favorite vacation place to enjoy with her husband, Jerry, and their family.  Iris loved her family dearly, especially her grandson, Skyler.  Iris was of Pentecostal Faith, and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Iris leaves behind her loving husband, Jerry; daughter, Kelley Jean Hamilton and husband, Edward of Bridgeport, IL; one grandson, Skyler Joe Edgin of St. Francisville, IL; one sister, Ruth (Joe) Smith of Gulfport, MS; one sister-in-law, Debbie Schwartz; and several nieces and nephews.

LindaMarie Schmidt, 78

LindaMarie Schmidt, 78, of Albion, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Mount Carmel, Illinois. She was born on June 29, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Henry and Rose (Dohse) Schmidt.

LindaMarie worked as a professional rater in the insurance industry. She had a love for animals, especially cats, and was known for taking in the strays and feeding them. She enjoyed gathering together and socializing at the Albion Senior Center. Linda Marie was a member of the Albion Presbyterian Church. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by several great nieces and nephews.

LindaMarie will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Shirley Wright; nephews, Chuck, Randy and Dan Cheadle, Brett Wright, Sr.; one niece, Tracy (Wright) Smolka.

LindaMarie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herbert, and Richard Schmidt.

In keeping with LindaMarie’s wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Albion Presbyterian Church.

Wilford (Wil) Paul Beard, 81

Wilford (Wil) Paul Beard, 81, of Boonville, Indiana passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Transcendent Healthcare North in Boonville, Indiana.

He was born on December 28, 1940 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, to the late Paul Beard and Doris Marie (Turner) Beard.

He graduated from Princeton High School in 1959 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, followed by the National Guard.

Wilford married his true love on December 31, 1960, and they devoted themselves to raising four children and a grandchild.

Wilford lived an extraordinary life of service to his country, his community, and his family. As he watched his children grow, his servant's heart led him to volunteer at Hillcrest Youth Home and Boonville Youth Center. He served as a member of the Warrick County School Corporation Board of Trustees for 8 years, and as a Deacon at Main Street General Baptist Church. He retired from Alcoa after almost 50 years. He spent his retirement years volunteering at The Bread of Life Ministry in Lynnville, Indiana. Wilford could also be found in his yard, growing beautiful flowers, and helping his neighbors.

Wilford is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Judith Lynne Beard, an infant son, Scot Richard Beard and son, Tod Alan Beard.

He is survived by his children, Kip Randall (Rebecca) Beard, DeLyn Beard, and Robert Troy (Dante Martinez) Beard; grandchildren, Dakota Doyle Beard, Kyle Lee Alan Beard, and Hunter Paul Waters; great grandchildren, Chelsea, Alex, Jazmin, and Kyla; brother Rodger (Angie) Beard, and honorary sister, Kathy (Paul) Merrill.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Koehler Funeral Home, 304 E. Main St., Boonville, Indiana.

Following the visitation, funeral services will be held at Koehler Funeral Home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor John Wongler officiating.

Burial to follow at Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton, Indiana.

The family would like to send a heartfelt note of gratitude to the staff at Transcendent Healthcare North, Dr. Ali, and Heart to Heart Hospice for the compassionate care given to Wilford during his healthcare battle. He had a mighty army fighting alongside him, fueled by Life Savers candy, chocolate, and donuts, which he happily supplied.
