Delores Carter, 87

Delores Carter, 87, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, formerly of Rantoul, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the home of her son. She was born on November 15, 1933 in Perry, New York, the daughter of Charles X. and Mary (Wretrzgkawska) Barthelemy.

Delores was proud of her up-bringing having been born and raised in Perry, New York. After moving to the Midwest, she was employed in the Rantoul, Illinois school system. She enjoyed her work in the St. Malachy School cafeteria. In her spare time Delores enjoyed bowling, gardening, crafts and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. She also liked playing games and cards with family and friends and would often spend time fishing. Even when her health failed her, Delores always had a smile. She was a devoted Catholic who enjoyed spending time reading her Bible. She had a sweet soul and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Delores will be remembered by her three sons, Chuck (Phyllis) Esserine of New Mexico, Ron (Arlene) Esserine of Rantoul, IL, Shane (Christy Ingram) Carter of Mount Carmel, IL; two daughters, Carol (Bob) Swinson of Sevierville, TN, Janet (Steve) Huser of Sevierville, TN; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gloria Ross, Janice Webster; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Garrett.

In keeping with Delores’ wishes, cremation rites will take place with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.

Julie Ann “Jewels” Henson, 63

Julie Ann “Jewels” Henson, 63, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on May 5, 1957 in Owensboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Jim and Bobbie Ann (Sublett) Sparks.

Jewels was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many.  She had a gift of listening to people; while offering advice to many.  Jewels worked at the Long Branch, Eagles and was currently working as a cook at the V.F.W. in Mount Carmel.  During her working career, Jewels made many lasting friendships.  She was a very good cook and was well known for her famous tacos.  She spent 32 years making her famous tacos on a weekly basis for “Taco Nights” at the local clubs.  Anyone that had the privilege of knowing Jewels, loved her. She was lovingly referred to as a “second mother” by many and was always willing to help others in need.  Jewels was a proud grandmother and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.  Jewels touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jewels will be remembered by her daughters, Shanna Henson of Mount Carmel, Mary (Micah) North of Edmond, OK and Jennifer Seaton of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Sadie (Aaron) Wilson, Avary Daum, Mataio Militoni, Aubree Carter, Leah and RJ North; and brother, Eric (Bobbie) Sparks of Austin, TX.

Jewels was preceded in death by her mother, Bobbie Sublett; and son, Greg Matthew Henson.

Judith Kay (Dickerson) Stoll, 72

Judith Kay (Dickerson) Stoll, 72, of Olney, passed away December 12, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital (Vincennes, Indiana).

Judith Kay (Dickerson) Stoll was born on December 27, 1947 in Noble, IL to Raymond Dickerson and Neva (Hough) Dickerson. She married Donald Stoll on August 7, 1966 at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney.

Judy worked as a secretary for Dr. Taft for many years and also sold cosmetics. She also worked at Trust Bank and Prudential Insurance.

Judy enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveled to 45 states in the U.S.. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the American Legion and at one time she was Director of the Goldwing Chapter. Judy took pleasure in making jewelry and cooking.

She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church

Judy is survived by husband of 54 years, Don Stoll of Olney; son, Craig Stoll of Olney; grandson, Dalton Stoll of Olney; sister, Jean Madden of Mt. Carmel; and several nieces and nephews including Kevin (Sheryl) Madden of Mt. Carmel, and several great nephews including Carson (Courtney Egner) Madden of Affton, MO and Chandler (Courtney) Madden of Mt. Carmel..

Judiy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pat Billingsley; and brothers-in-law, Kenny Madden and Glenn Billingsley.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements. A visitation will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson in Olney.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the funeral home with a one hour visitation one hour before the service.

Interment will take place following funeral services at Crest Haven Memorial Park.

Richard Dean “Dick” Evans, 89

Richard Dean “Dick” Evans, 89, of Mt. Carrnel, IL passed away on Friday December 11, 2020 at Oakview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation.

Dick was preceded in passing by his wife, Jewell Ann Evans. He is survived by his children, Regina Heitman of Hord IL, Sharon Evans of New Port Richey FL, Glenn Evans of Mt. Carmel, and Craig Evans of Rushville IL; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother Donald Lee Evans of Oklahoma City, OK.

 Richard has resided in Mt Carmel since 1952. Many will remember him from his nearly 40 years with Thordarson Meissner. Others may remember him from his short, but memorable, stint with CAC Microcircuits.

 He was born on February 17, 1931 in Detroit MI, the son of Regnal Dain Evans and Mildred Irene (Foster) Evans. Per his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mike G. Dyehouse, 65

Mike G. Dyehouse, 65, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.  He was born on December 20, 1954 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Kenneth Gene and June Louise (Vanmatre) Dyehouse.  He married Connie Evans on June 17, 2006, at Hope Fellowship Church and they have enjoyed fourteen years of marriage. 

Mike was a member of the Mount Carmel graduating class of 1973.  He worked for thirty-plus years as a machinist at Pacific Press and Shear where he was president of the local union.  In the early 1980’s he served as Mayor of the Village of Keensburg.  He enjoyed being a member of the Freedom Riders.  Mike was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He loved music and often would play his guitar and sing the songs from his heart.   Mike never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with anyone he came in contact with. He cared about animals and loved his dogs.  Mike was a Godly man, had a deep faith and truly cared about his family and friends.   He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

Mike leaves behind his loving wife, Connie; three sons, Justin (Andrea) Dyehouse, James (Tammy) Jorgensen, Tim Stearman; three daughters, Amber (Kane Harrell) Dyehouse, Jacklyn (John Baize) Kennedy, Tamara (Marty) Smith; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Kay Prosise, Carolyn Lowe; many loved nieces and nephews.   

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Garith, Joe and Colin Soden; sister, Judith Esparza.

Graveside Services will be 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Daniel Moore officiating.

Ross Hannuksela, 55

Ross Hannuksela, 55, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on February 15, 1965 in Eveleth, Minnesota, the son of Lawrence and Susan (Lintula) Hannuksela. He married Jenny Brown on December 21, 1985 and she survives.

Ross was employed by E.T. Simonds in the quality control division. He was a 1983 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and a member of the 1981 Illinois State Champion football team. Ross was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed being outdoors and took up the hobbies of hunting and fishing. Ross had a love for animals, especially his grand-dogs. Above all, his family meant the most to him. Ross was of the Lutheran Faith, was a friend to many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ross leaves behind his parents; loving wife of thirty-four years, Jenny; sons, Davin Hannuksela and wife, Lauren of Anna, IL, Gage Hannuksela and wife, Kaleh of Vincennes, IN; daughter, Madison Riley and husband, Brett of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Aniston, Asher, Gavin, Braylon and Gwen Hannuksela with baby Brynn Hannuksela arriving any day, Axil, Finnian and Callie Riley; sisters, Paige (Bill) Phelps of Wheatfield, IN, Penny Kerstiens of Ferdinand, IN, Elissa (John) Aidt of Sumner, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Sara Newkirk, brother-in-law, Robert Kerstiens; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ross was preceded in death by his in-laws, Bud and Ellen Brown.

Orville Reed Hardenbrook, Jr., 92

Orville Reed Hardenbrook, Jr., 92, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab Center. He did not die from COVID. He was just old and lived an awesome long life!

Reed was born August 17, 1928 in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of Orville R. and Sadie (Tammen) Hardenbrook, Sr. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel.

During his childhood, Reed attended nineteen different schools in several different states. In 8th grade he settled into school at Benton and graduated in 1947 from Benton Township High School. While in high school he played basketball and track. Reed started playing varsity form his sophomore year on. He continued and played for an independent basketball league in Evansville, In.

Reed married to Phyllis Jean Burkett on September 4, 1948 in Benton, Illinois. She preceded him in death after 52 years of marriage on December 25, 2000. He married Lillian Genelle Large on August 29, 2005 and she preceded him in death on February 5, 2016.

Working with his dad in the oil fields from the age of 12, Reed became a roughneck. Settling into his carrier with Dowell in Mt. Carmel in 1955 and then working as station manager in Henderson Kentucky for over 20 years. He started working as sales and service engineer for M&S Oilwell and Cementing in 1984 and until his retirement. Reed enjoyed watching Evansville, Indiana basketball, was a big Cardinal fan, NFL football fan and avid golfer. Enjoyed spending days golfing with Gary Arnold Sr. and Sitaleki Militoni. He had fond memories of his trips to the Grand Canyon and Mexico. He loved bassett hounds, especially his fur buddy, Ace. We will be remembered as a well-respected man not only personally but professionally.

Left to cherish Reed’s memory are his daughter, Kerri Dawn Poole Wilson; stepdaughter, Rachel Martin; stepson, Monte Turner; grandchildren, Aaron James and wife SSGT Kayla Poole and Rebecca Poole Teague Waters(Retired USAF); step grandchildren, Hannah Martin, Sarah Martin, and Noah Martin; great grandchildren, Kieran James Poole, Alexander Reed Poole, Aries Dawn Poole, Morgan Seth Teague, Aaron Blake Waters; and a niece, Kimberly Carrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; a son, Gary Reed Hardenbook and his wife Judy; and a sister, Reba Colleen Carrell.

Visitation for friends and family will be held Thursday December 17, 2020 from 12:00- 1:00 p.m. with Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Delma W. Phebus, 93

Delma w. Phebus, 93, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at River Oaks Health Campus surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born January 12, 1927, the daughter of Walter and Edith Farnell of Ocala, Florida.  Delma graduated from Lake City High School in Florida in May of 1945.  She met the “love of her life,” Bill Phebus, at a church social where they had an introduction game to meet.  Bill saw she had the phrase “A penny saved is a…” and he found the other half of it “…a penny earned.”  It always remained with the family pictures.  She married Gail William (Bill) Phebus on December 22, 1945, in Lake City, Florida, where he was stationed in the Navy.  After Bill was discharged, they returned to Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  They enjoyed 69 Years of marriage before his death on December 29, 2014.

Delma was a devoted mother and wife.  She was a gifted homemaker, seamstress, enjoyed her home immensely, crafts of all kinds, reading, writing, genealogy, baking, playing the piano, antiquing, working with her flowers and African violets.  She was a 4-H leader, Sunday school and VBS teacher, and played the piano at the Maud Christian Church for many years.  Delma loved to visit the elderly, making meals for them and helping them anyway she could.  She gathered children in the rural area around Maud church to take them to VBS.

Delma and Bill purchased Geuss Beauty Supply in Evansville, Indiana, in 1972.  They moved to Evansville and ran it for twenty years, where Delma worked as the Office Manager.  They attended First Christian Church while they lived there.  In 1992, they retired and moved back to Mt. Carmel.  After retirement, they traveled the country in their motor home, spending winters in Florida and Texas visiting friends and family.  Delma was a member of Parkview Christian Church in Mt. Carmel. 

Left to cherish Delma’s memory are her daughters Diana Hall and Connie (Ed) McPherson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and son Ben (Diana) Phebus of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren Derick (Laura) Wiggins, Erin (George) McCullough, Darby (Justin) Stickler, Erika (Chance) Powell, Bret, Trent, Drew (Emily) Phebus, David (Kerry) Hall, Clarissa (Randy) VanVickle; greatgrandchildren Morgan, Paige, John Martin and Levi Stickler, Sloane and Whitney Powell, Jules and Jackson McCullough, Lauren and Courtney Hall, Nick, Alex and Zack VanVickle; sister, Marjorie Byrd of Columbia, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

 Delma is preceded in death by her husband Bill; grandson Dale William Phebus; a sister Theta Montgomery; and son-in-law Jack Hall.

 The family would like to thank River Oaks for the care they gave their mother.  It was a caring place with loving caregivers during an especially difficult time with dealing with Covid.

 A private Graveside Service is planned for family and close friends at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2020.  Covid guidelines will apply.

Max Theron Schroeder, 88

Max Theron Schroeder, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at The Waters of Princeton, Indiana.  He was born on November 15, 1932 in Keensburg, Illinois, the son of Cyril Rotramel Schroeder and Anna Laura (Collins) Schroeder.  Max married Marilyn Allen on June 5, 1955 at the Keensburg Christian Church and they have enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage.

Max was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Some of his fondest memories were of spending time with his family, camping, tinkering in the garage and as lead singer in area church choirs.  Max graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Army at Fort Richardson, Alaska, where he worked as a shoe cobbler.  After his service in the Army, Max returned home to Wabash County where he started working for George’s Shoe Store.  Soon after, Max began working for Snap-On Tools Corporation where he retired after thirty-seven- and one-half years.  Max served his community as Mayor of Keensburg for many years.  He also enjoyed being involved in several local churches.  Max was loved by many and his influence will forever remain in the lives of those that knew him.

Rose Ann Jones, 83

Rose Ann Jones, 83, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Ascension St. Vincent in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family.

Rose was born August 15, 1937, the daughter of Leo H. and Bessie A. (Rice) Tromley in Vincennes, Indiana.  She graduated from Fritchton High School.  Rose was married to Amos Reed and he survives.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Vincennes, Indiana and attended Hope Fellowship Church in Mt. Carmel.  Rose worked at Sears Department Store and later as a desk clerk for Vincennes University.  She loved being with family and was very involved in their daily activities. 

Left to cherish Rose’s memory are her husband, Amos; children Cathy (George) Luce of Vincennes, Indiana, and Lisa (James) Thompson of Princeton, Indiana; five grandchildren, Abram Luce, Adam (Olivia) Luce, Aaron (Carter) Luce, Christopher Thompson and Katie Thompson; and two siblings, Nancy Carnahan of Columbus, Indiana and Kenny Tromley of Vincennes, Indiana. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Marlan Tromley, Marlene Riney and Janet Kitchell.

There will be a private family service.  Burial will be at Adams Corner Cemetery.

Shirley Harris, 84

Shirley Harris, 84 of Fairfield passed away at 12:18 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Oakview Nursing Home in Mt. Carmel, IL. Born on May 11th, 1936 in White County, IL to Charles W. and Ava (Hunsinger) Fulkerson, she married Hubert (Herb) Harris on December 12, 1953.

Shirley had been office manager and bookkeeper for Harris Insurance Agency and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Shirley is survived by her husband Herb Harris of Fairfield, son Mike (Sharon) Harris of Mt. Carmel, daughter Teresa (Jeff) Angle of Fairfield, grandchildren Jordan Angle, Laura (Steven Thomas) Harris, Lindsey (Brian) Kingery, and Kristen (James) Sullivan, great grandchildren Braden Kingery, Parker Kingery, Beckham Harris, Kinley Harris, and Everett Sullivan, sister Ruth Foister of Carmi, sister in law Melba Fulkerson of Mt. Carmel, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Allen Fulkerson, and a sister Wanda Martin.

A graveside service for family and close friends of Shirley Harris will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, December 10th at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield.

Everyone attending the service is asked to follow State of Illinois and CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of Covid 19.

Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield which is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Scott Hocking, 53

Gary Scott Hocking, 53, of Mt. Carmel IL, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2020 at St. Vincent Evansville Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Scott was born in Mt. Carmel, IL July 17, 1967, the son of Gary Ray and Connie Sue (Fewkes) Hocking. He was a member of Keensburg Christian Church and a client at Wabash Area Vocational Enterprises (WAVE). He was a graduate of Brownsville School at age twenty-one.

Scott loved God, his family, his church, farming, and his horses. He never met a stranger and remembered the smallest details about everyone and everything. He enjoyed competing in Special Olympics and 4-H as a child. He will be missed, especially the six p.m. phone calls he made every night.

Those left to share Scott’s memory include his mother, Connie; sister, Susan (Tom) Sumner of Gifford, IL; nieces and nephews, Tanner (Alison) Saltsgaver, Tessa (Brandon) Wilson, Tasha Saltsgaver (Randy Brasher), Craig (Chelsea) Sumner; grand nieces and nephews, Olivia Saltsgaver, Brandon Wilson, Jr., Bentley Brasher, Rayden Sumner; uncles and aunts, Larry and Carolyn Hocking, Sherry and Roger Kieffer, Kenneth and Scharlene Fewkes; special friends Dan and Judy Bosecker, and lots of cousins.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents Jack and Virginia Hocking and Harry and Mary Fewkes.

There will be a Drive-Through Visitation for family and friends on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Social distancing practices, wearing of masks as well as use of hand sanitizer is expected.

George A. Dooley, 66

George A. Dooley, 66, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born April 14, 1954, the son of William Elza and Delores Rosetta (Sherman) Dooley in Germany.    George proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years.  He married Kathy J. Porter April 14, 1997, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

George worked over his lifetime at Rubel Sawmill, oilfield, Snap-On Tools and retired in 2014 as a boilermaker from Zachery.  He enjoyed woodworking and watching wildlife.  His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren.  He and Kathy attended Gospel Kingdom Church.  He will be missed by his fur nephew, Odie.

George is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kathy; daughter, Sara (Jeremy) Rigg; step-daughter, Billie and Scott Mayberry; siblings, William Dooley and Dene (Jeff) Swarens; grandchildren, Trevor (Casey) Cooper, Brandon (Britney) Cooper, Nate (Brynn) Cooper, Cody (Abbi) Summers and Rashell (Tavis) Alka; and greatgrandchildren Marlee Persinger, Conrad Cooper, Sophia Summers, Landon Cooper, Maverick Cooper, Nylah Cooper, Kasen Cooper and Myles Burton; stepmother Marlene Dooley; and several nieces and nephews

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Joshua Dooley; and a stepdaughter Sheri Knapp.

There will be a public graveside service with military honors on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Iris Tennes, 92

Iris Tennes, 92, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020, at her residence with her children by her side.

She was born December 29, 1927, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Henry and Stella (Allen) Calverley.  Iris graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1945.  On October 5, 1946, she married Christian L. “Chris” Tennes at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Iris was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, always showing unending love and support.   Her life’s work involved all aspects of farm operations. She will be remembered for her caring and sweet disposition by all who knew her.

Left to cherish Iris’ memory are her children Virginia (David) Porter of Conroe, Texas, Patricia (David) Cavanaugh of Fairfield, Illinois, Martha (Gail) Hughes of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Margaret (Robert) Williams of Brentwood, Tennessee and Joe Tennes of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Doug Porter, Allison Wells, Sara Vandiver, Eric Hering, Traci Kennard, Amanda Quick, Sarah Ewing, Brad Hughes, Brooke Tate, Laura Gray, Charles Williams and Caroline Williams; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Preceding Iris in death is her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Hering; and brother, Charles Calverley.

There will be a private rosary and mass with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Johnnie Lee “John” Dunn, 67

Johnnie Lee “John” Dunn, 67, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away from cancer on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at home.  He was born on July 14, 1953 in Mount Carmel, the son of Jack and Pat (Collins) Dunn.  He married his long-time girlfriend, Sandy Paschal, on September 22, 2018 and they have enjoyed twenty years together.

John was employed as a truck driver in the oil fields and for McCuiston Distributing in Mount Carmel.  He then worked for PIC Group Inspections until his retirement and after that, he filled in some of his spare time driving a school bus in Princeton, Indiana.  John loved to go camping.  He and Sandy greatly enjoyed their trips to area campgrounds in both Illinois and Indiana.  John also enjoyed bowling and he could tell a good joke.  John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.  His dog, Molly, had a special place in his heart.  John loved his family dearly.  Spending time with their children and grandchildren brought him great joy.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Sandy; mother, Pat Dunn; sons, Ryan (Dana) Dunn, Nick (Yesenia) Dunn, Josh (Leslie) Paschal, William Paschal; daughters, Mahaley (Blain) Perry, and Jenny Paschal; six grandchildren; twin brother, Jack (Toni) Dunn; sister, Vilinda Kitchene; one aunt, Violet Collins; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, grandparents; several aunts and uncles. 

John’s family will be having a private Celebration of Life, Saturday, December 5, 2020.

Elaine M. Tanner, 76

Elaine M. Tanner, 76, of Princeton, Indiana formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at The Waters in Princeton.

She was born August 21, 1944 in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Kliza Pisowicz.

Elaine was a member of Mt. Carmel Eagles. She worked as a crane operator in the steel mills

Elaine is survived by two sons, Roger Tanner of Valparaiso, Indiana and James Tanner of Mt. Carmel and daughter Carolyn Roark and her husband, Curt of Sumner, Illinois; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; brother John Pisowicz and his wife Rae Lyn of Michigan; two brothers-in-law Bill Sorrell and Joe Josway of Hammond, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia Sorrell and Ann Marie Josway.

Cremation will take place. There will be no formal service.

Timothy L. “Redneck” Sutton, 61

Timothy L. “Redneck” Sutton, 61, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab. He was born June 6, 1959 in Florida, the son of Rose Mary Sutton.

During his working years, Redneck was employed at Snap On Tool Corporation. He was a friend to many in the community. Redneck would help anyone who was in need even if he was not acquainted with them. He was known as a “River Rat” having spent much time at his camp along the Wabash River. Redneck will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Redneck leaves behind his son, Nathan Henson of Mount Carmel; and one brother, Rodney Sutton of Texas.

Redneck was preceded in death by his mother.

In keeping with Redneck’s wishes, cremation rites will take place and no formal services are planned at this time.

Bill McGillem, 86

Bill McGillem, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Oakview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Mount Carmel.  He was born on August 20, 1934 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Orville C. and Thelma Louise (Durfur) McGillem.   Bill graduated from Princeton Community High School in 1952.  He married Barbara Diane Ross on April 9, 1960 and together they enjoyed sixty years of marriage.

Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather who treasured the time he spent with his family.  Bill attended Southern Illinois University for two years prior to joining the United States Air Force in 1956.  He served in the Air Force as a Draftsman for four years (1956-1960).  During his service he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1960.  Bill worked at Potter & Brumfield (AMF) and then at Siemens as an Electrical Engineer from 1960 until his retirement in 1994. 

Among Bill’s hobbies, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf and bowling with family and friends.  He also enjoyed being on the water fishing and was a former member of the Hanging Rock Bass Club.  He had a passion for flying remote controlled model airplanes and was also a member of the SASS, Single Action Shooting Society, where he participated in competitive cowboy reenactment shooting.

Bill will be remembered by his loving wife, Barb McGillem of Mount Carmel; son, William “Chuck” McGillem and his wife, Doreen of Belleville, IL; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou (Hurst) McGillem of Princeton, Indiana; and three nieces.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, William David McGillem; and brother, Donald McGillem.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation rites will take place and a Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at a later date with family and friends.

Ronald G. Goodson, 70

Ronald G. Goodson, 70, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on December 6, 1949 in Mount Carmel, the son of Baisel and Vernadine (Garman) Goodson Sr.

Ron was a twenty-five-year retiree from the United States Army. He was a Hot Rod automotive enthusiast and looked forward to attending the Frog Follies every year. He organized car shows at the local AutoZone where he was employed and made many friends. He enjoyed helping others who shared the same interest. Ron loved taking care of his yard and tinkering around the house. He often visited antique and thrift stores in the tri-state searching for special treasures. Ron had a gentle, easy-going spirit and he showed unconditional love to his family and friends. His family treasured his love and guidance and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ron leaves behind his mother, Vernadine Goodson; children Sean (Shari) Goodson and Kelly Goodson; three children he loved as his own, Brandy (Dan) Raines, Winter (Shawn) Kennedy and Shelia (Justin) Smiddy; grandchildren, Hendrex, Dutch, Lilliah and Bella; bonus grandchildren, Eric, Elizabeth, Megan, Chloe and Tristan; one brother, Baisel Goodson Jr.

Ron was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Bill Goodson.

Graveside Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2020 at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Deron Colgan officiating. Ron’s service to his country will be recognized with Full Military Honors.
