Max Theron Schroeder, 88

Max Theron Schroeder, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at The Waters of Princeton, Indiana.  He was born on November 15, 1932 in Keensburg, Illinois, the son of Cyril Rotramel Schroeder and Anna Laura (Collins) Schroeder.  Max married Marilyn Allen on June 5, 1955 at the Keensburg Christian Church and they have enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage.

Max was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Some of his fondest memories were of spending time with his family, camping, tinkering in the garage and as lead singer in area church choirs.  Max graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Army at Fort Richardson, Alaska, where he worked as a shoe cobbler.  After his service in the Army, Max returned home to Wabash County where he started working for George’s Shoe Store.  Soon after, Max began working for Snap-On Tools Corporation where he retired after thirty-seven- and one-half years.  Max served his community as Mayor of Keensburg for many years.  He also enjoyed being involved in several local churches.  Max was loved by many and his influence will forever remain in the lives of those that knew him.

Max will be remembered by his loving wife, Marilyn; sons, Jeff Schroeder and wife Betty of Panama City Beach, FL, Greg Schroeder and wife Sonja of Evansville, IN; daughter, Jeanna Hicks and husband Terry of Mount Carmel, IL; grandchildren, Erica Dawn Coram, Eric Jason Wilkas, Dustin (Dana) Schroeder, Tabitha (Josh) Hall, Zachary (Amanda) Hicks, Jordan (Jordyn) Hicks, Marissa (Cameron) Kieffer; great-grandchildren, Alec Wilkas, Tristyn Wyatt, Kristyn Wyatt, Lillie Wilkas, Andrew Wilkas, Sara Dawn Coram, Harley Wayne Coram, Kayne Schroeder, Carter Schroeder, Emma Schroeder, Alicyn Etheridge, Kadyn Cox, Preslie Hall, Luke Hall, Lexi Hall, Charles Hicks, Brayden Hicks, Jackson Hicks, Rose Hicks, Reid Hicks, Grayson Kieffer and Sawyer Kieffer; sister-in-law, Phyllis Schroeder; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Norman Timberlake; many loved nieces and nephews.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John C. and Stanley R. Schroeder; one infant sister. 

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Antioch Cemetery in rural Wabash County, IL with Pastor Allan Wright officiating.  Max’s service to his country will be honored with Full Military Honors.

Rose Ann Jones, 83

Rose Ann Jones, 83, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Ascension St. Vincent in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family.

Rose was born August 15, 1937, the daughter of Leo H. and Bessie A. (Rice) Tromley in Vincennes, Indiana.  She graduated from Fritchton High School.  Rose was married to Amos Reed and he survives.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Vincennes, Indiana and attended Hope Fellowship Church in Mt. Carmel.  Rose worked at Sears Department Store and later as a desk clerk for Vincennes University.  She loved being with family and was very involved in their daily activities. 

Left to cherish Rose’s memory are her husband, Amos; children Cathy (George) Luce of Vincennes, Indiana, and Lisa (James) Thompson of Princeton, Indiana; five grandchildren, Abram Luce, Adam (Olivia) Luce, Aaron (Carter) Luce, Christopher Thompson and Katie Thompson; and two siblings, Nancy Carnahan of Columbus, Indiana and Kenny Tromley of Vincennes, Indiana. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Marlan Tromley, Marlene Riney and Janet Kitchell.

There will be a private family service.  Burial will be at Adams Corner Cemetery.

Shirley Harris, 84

Shirley Harris, 84 of Fairfield passed away at 12:18 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Oakview Nursing Home in Mt. Carmel, IL. Born on May 11th, 1936 in White County, IL to Charles W. and Ava (Hunsinger) Fulkerson, she married Hubert (Herb) Harris on December 12, 1953.

Shirley had been office manager and bookkeeper for Harris Insurance Agency and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Shirley is survived by her husband Herb Harris of Fairfield, son Mike (Sharon) Harris of Mt. Carmel, daughter Teresa (Jeff) Angle of Fairfield, grandchildren Jordan Angle, Laura (Steven Thomas) Harris, Lindsey (Brian) Kingery, and Kristen (James) Sullivan, great grandchildren Braden Kingery, Parker Kingery, Beckham Harris, Kinley Harris, and Everett Sullivan, sister Ruth Foister of Carmi, sister in law Melba Fulkerson of Mt. Carmel, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Allen Fulkerson, and a sister Wanda Martin.

A graveside service for family and close friends of Shirley Harris will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, December 10th at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield.

Everyone attending the service is asked to follow State of Illinois and CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of Covid 19.

Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield which is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Scott Hocking, 53

Gary Scott Hocking, 53, of Mt. Carmel IL, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2020 at St. Vincent Evansville Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Scott was born in Mt. Carmel, IL July 17, 1967, the son of Gary Ray and Connie Sue (Fewkes) Hocking. He was a member of Keensburg Christian Church and a client at Wabash Area Vocational Enterprises (WAVE). He was a graduate of Brownsville School at age twenty-one.

Scott loved God, his family, his church, farming, and his horses. He never met a stranger and remembered the smallest details about everyone and everything. He enjoyed competing in Special Olympics and 4-H as a child. He will be missed, especially the six p.m. phone calls he made every night.

Those left to share Scott’s memory include his mother, Connie; sister, Susan (Tom) Sumner of Gifford, IL; nieces and nephews, Tanner (Alison) Saltsgaver, Tessa (Brandon) Wilson, Tasha Saltsgaver (Randy Brasher), Craig (Chelsea) Sumner; grand nieces and nephews, Olivia Saltsgaver, Brandon Wilson, Jr., Bentley Brasher, Rayden Sumner; uncles and aunts, Larry and Carolyn Hocking, Sherry and Roger Kieffer, Kenneth and Scharlene Fewkes; special friends Dan and Judy Bosecker, and lots of cousins.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents Jack and Virginia Hocking and Harry and Mary Fewkes.

There will be a Drive-Through Visitation for family and friends on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Social distancing practices, wearing of masks as well as use of hand sanitizer is expected.

A Private Service for family and close friends is scheduled on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel.

Scott was a fan of “John Deere green”. In his memory wear green or John Deere accessories to his visitation and funeral.

George A. Dooley, 66

George A. Dooley, 66, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born April 14, 1954, the son of William Elza and Delores Rosetta (Sherman) Dooley in Germany.    George proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years.  He married Kathy J. Porter April 14, 1997, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

George worked over his lifetime at Rubel Sawmill, oilfield, Snap-On Tools and retired in 2014 as a boilermaker from Zachery.  He enjoyed woodworking and watching wildlife.  His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren.  He and Kathy attended Gospel Kingdom Church.  He will be missed by his fur nephew, Odie.

George is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kathy; daughter, Sara (Jeremy) Rigg; step-daughter, Billie and Scott Mayberry; siblings, William Dooley and Dene (Jeff) Swarens; grandchildren, Trevor (Casey) Cooper, Brandon (Britney) Cooper, Nate (Brynn) Cooper, Cody (Abbi) Summers and Rashell (Tavis) Alka; and greatgrandchildren Marlee Persinger, Conrad Cooper, Sophia Summers, Landon Cooper, Maverick Cooper, Nylah Cooper, Kasen Cooper and Myles Burton; stepmother Marlene Dooley; and several nieces and nephews

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Joshua Dooley; and a stepdaughter Sheri Knapp.

There will be a public graveside service with military honors on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Iris Tennes, 92

Iris Tennes, 92, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020, at her residence with her children by her side.

She was born December 29, 1927, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Henry and Stella (Allen) Calverley.  Iris graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1945.  On October 5, 1946, she married Christian L. “Chris” Tennes at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Iris was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, always showing unending love and support.   Her life’s work involved all aspects of farm operations. She will be remembered for her caring and sweet disposition by all who knew her.

Left to cherish Iris’ memory are her children Virginia (David) Porter of Conroe, Texas, Patricia (David) Cavanaugh of Fairfield, Illinois, Martha (Gail) Hughes of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Margaret (Robert) Williams of Brentwood, Tennessee and Joe Tennes of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Doug Porter, Allison Wells, Sara Vandiver, Eric Hering, Traci Kennard, Amanda Quick, Sarah Ewing, Brad Hughes, Brooke Tate, Laura Gray, Charles Williams and Caroline Williams; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Preceding Iris in death is her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Hering; and brother, Charles Calverley.

There will be a private rosary and mass with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Johnnie Lee “John” Dunn, 67

Johnnie Lee “John” Dunn, 67, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away from cancer on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at home.  He was born on July 14, 1953 in Mount Carmel, the son of Jack and Pat (Collins) Dunn.  He married his long-time girlfriend, Sandy Paschal, on September 22, 2018 and they have enjoyed twenty years together.

John was employed as a truck driver in the oil fields and for McCuiston Distributing in Mount Carmel.  He then worked for PIC Group Inspections until his retirement and after that, he filled in some of his spare time driving a school bus in Princeton, Indiana.  John loved to go camping.  He and Sandy greatly enjoyed their trips to area campgrounds in both Illinois and Indiana.  John also enjoyed bowling and he could tell a good joke.  John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.  His dog, Molly, had a special place in his heart.  John loved his family dearly.  Spending time with their children and grandchildren brought him great joy.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Sandy; mother, Pat Dunn; sons, Ryan (Dana) Dunn, Nick (Yesenia) Dunn, Josh (Leslie) Paschal, William Paschal; daughters, Mahaley (Blain) Perry, and Jenny Paschal; six grandchildren; twin brother, Jack (Toni) Dunn; sister, Vilinda Kitchene; one aunt, Violet Collins; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, grandparents; several aunts and uncles.

Elaine M. Tanner, 76

Elaine M. Tanner, 76, of Princeton, Indiana formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at The Waters in Princeton.

She was born August 21, 1944 in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Kliza Pisowicz.

Elaine was a member of Mt. Carmel Eagles. She worked as a crane operator in the steel mills

Elaine is survived by two sons, Roger Tanner of Valparaiso, Indiana and James Tanner of Mt. Carmel and daughter Carolyn Roark and her husband, Curt of Sumner, Illinois; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; brother John Pisowicz and his wife Rae Lyn of Michigan; two brothers-in-law Bill Sorrell and Joe Josway of Hammond, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia Sorrell and Ann Marie Josway.

Cremation will take place. There will be no formal service.

Timothy L. “Redneck” Sutton, 61

Timothy L. “Redneck” Sutton, 61, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab. He was born June 6, 1959 in Florida, the son of Rose Mary Sutton.

During his working years, Redneck was employed at Snap On Tool Corporation. He was a friend to many in the community. Redneck would help anyone who was in need even if he was not acquainted with them. He was known as a “River Rat” having spent much time at his camp along the Wabash River. Redneck will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Redneck leaves behind his son, Nathan Henson of Mount Carmel; and one brother, Rodney Sutton of Texas.

Redneck was preceded in death by his mother.

Bill McGillem, 86

Bill McGillem, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Oakview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Mount Carmel.  He was born on August 20, 1934 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Orville C. and Thelma Louise (Durfur) McGillem.   Bill graduated from Princeton Community High School in 1952.  He married Barbara Diane Ross on April 9, 1960 and together they enjoyed sixty years of marriage.

Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather who treasured the time he spent with his family.  Bill attended Southern Illinois University for two years prior to joining the United States Air Force in 1956.  He served in the Air Force as a Draftsman for four years (1956-1960).  During his service he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1960.  Bill worked at Potter & Brumfield (AMF) and then at Siemens as an Electrical Engineer from 1960 until his retirement in 1994. 

Among Bill’s hobbies, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf and bowling with family and friends.  He also enjoyed being on the water fishing and was a former member of the Hanging Rock Bass Club.  He had a passion for flying remote controlled model airplanes and was also a member of the SASS, Single Action Shooting Society, where he participated in competitive cowboy reenactment shooting.

Bill will be remembered by his loving wife, Barb McGillem of Mount Carmel; son, William “Chuck” McGillem and his wife, Doreen of Belleville, IL; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou (Hurst) McGillem of Princeton, Indiana; and three nieces.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, William David McGillem; and brother, Donald McGillem.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation rites will take place and a Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at a later date with family and friends.

Ronald G. Goodson, 70

Ronald G. Goodson, 70, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on December 6, 1949 in Mount Carmel, the son of Baisel and Vernadine (Garman) Goodson Sr.

Ron was a twenty-five-year retiree from the United States Army. He was a Hot Rod automotive enthusiast and looked forward to attending the Frog Follies every year. He organized car shows at the local AutoZone where he was employed and made many friends. He enjoyed helping others who shared the same interest. Ron loved taking care of his yard and tinkering around the house. He often visited antique and thrift stores in the tri-state searching for special treasures. Ron had a gentle, easy-going spirit and he showed unconditional love to his family and friends. His family treasured his love and guidance and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ron leaves behind his mother, Vernadine Goodson; children Sean (Shari) Goodson and Kelly Goodson; three children he loved as his own, Brandy (Dan) Raines, Winter (Shawn) Kennedy and Shelia (Justin) Smiddy; grandchildren, Hendrex, Dutch, Lilliah and Bella; bonus grandchildren, Eric, Elizabeth, Megan, Chloe and Tristan; one brother, Baisel Goodson Jr.

Ron was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Bill Goodson.

Graveside Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2020 at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Deron Colgan officiating. Ron’s service to his country will be recognized with Full Military Honors.

Funeral Report-Rudy David Kight

Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2020, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home to honor the life Rudy David Kight. Pastor Deron Colgan officiated the service that included prayer, reading of the obituary, message and closing prayer. Scripture passages were taken from Psalm 23, 1 Corinthians 2:9, Psalm 26, and Isaiah 55. Rudy’s son, Brandon Kight shared fond memories of his dad’s life and the great lessons he taught him. Rudy’s nephew, Jimmy Deisher, also spoke of many fond memories of Rudy’s life. Jennifer Colgan provided prelude and postlude music during the service. Sally Kight sang, “It Is Well With My Soul”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial took place at Allendale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Blake Kight, Dirk Kight, Asher Kight, Jim Deisher, Gene Kight, and Mac Kight. Thomas J. Hughes, 70

Thomas J. Hughes, 70, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Monday, November 23, 2020 at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville. Illinois.

He was born October 16, 1950 in Olean, New York, the son of Jay E. and Janice M. Gallets Hughes.

Those left to share his memory are his daughter Kimberly A. Walston and stepson Ronald Jacobs of Mt. Carmel; brother, Ron and his wife Marsha of Casa Grand, AZ, sister, Marcia Hennessey of Glendale, AZ; and grandson, Jaxon W. Walston.

Thomas was a truck driver, driving his own truck from New York to California and Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Per his request cremation will take place and with no formal services with burial at a later date in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, NY.

Lois Ann (Wallar) Wahler Burkett, 92

Lois Ann (Wallar) Wahler Burkett, 92, passed away November 21, 2020 in Princeton, IN.

She was born May 11, 1928, the daughter of Howard V. and Hazel Fern (Culbreth) Wallar.

Lois Ann married Richard J. Wahler on June 17, 1950 and enjoyed 42 years with him until his death on December 29, 1992. On December 26, 1999, she married Gerald W. Burkett and he survives.

A Mt. Carmel native, Lois Ann was a retired music and elementary school teacher and life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Lois Ann was preceded in death by her infant sister, Mary Lee Wallar and infant granddaughter, Emily Brooke Girten. 

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Burkett of Mt. Carmel, IL, daughter, Julie Wahler Girten (Kevin Jones) of Evansville, IN, granddaughter, Cori (Greg) Meunier and great-grandchildren, Alexa and Eli Meunier of Newburgh, IN. She is also survived by stepchildren, Steve (Donna) Burkett, their children, Stephen Burkett, Jeremy (Christy) Burkett and Dan (Wanda) Burkett, their children, Amanda (Kevin) Sellers and Laura Burkett, along with step great-grandchildren Xander, Shiloh and Tegan Burkett and Katlyn Kunkel and one step great-great grandson, Easton.

Graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

Irma Lee Ballard, 91

Irma Lee Ballard, 91, of rural Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Wabash General Hospital.  Irma was born the daughter of Robert H. “Harry” and Ida Marie (Fearheiley) Windes on June 25, 1929 in Mount Carmel.   She married Leonard W. “Bill” Ballard on February 11, 1949 in Allendale, Illinois and together they enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage before his passing on April 24, 2017. 

Irma was a 1947 graduate of Mount Carmel High School where she enjoyed being a vocalist for the Campus Cadets, a big band organization.  Irma loved to sing.  She was a member of Bellmont Christian Church where she sang in the gospel trio. She enjoyed being involved with the youth of the Church, especially Vacation Bible School.  In her spare time, she took up tatting, a form of lace making.  Irma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Cooking holiday meals for her family and playing games with her grandchildren were among her favorite things to do.  Irma was sincerely loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Irma leaves behind her four sons, Mark Ballard and wife Lana of Mount Vernon, IL, James Ballard and wife Tammy of Albion, IL, Daniel Ballard and wife Debra of Knoxville, TN, and Philip Ballard and wife Ada of Mount Carmel; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Ballard; parents, Harry and Marie Windes; three siblings, Jean Fischer, Helen Clevenger and infant brother, Robert “Buddy” Windes.    

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Bethel Cemetery with Pastor David Shain officiating.

Seth Michael Hardy, 34

Seth Michael Hardy, 34, of Carrier Mills, died on Friday, November 20, 2020.

He was born on November 21, 1985 the son of Clay Hardy and Kim (Jackson) Hardy in Taylorville, IL.  He met Jessica Crackel in Mt. Carmel, Il and they were married on December 15, 2012. They have three children, Liam Robert, Jack Carlson, and Kate Elizabeth.

Seth graduated from Pana Senior High School in 2004 and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and graduated with a degree in Land Surveying in 2008. He held surveying licenses in many surrounding states. Seth worked at as a surveyor for Chastain and Associates, LLC in Benton. He also worked for Hurst-Rosche Engineers in Marion and Neikirk Engineering in Mt. Carmel.

In his free time, Seth loved spending time with his wife and two boys. They attended Little Chapel Church and the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Seth was also a member of the Great Banquet family. He enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles and dirt bikes.

Seth will be remembered by his wife, Jessica; sons, Liam and Jack; mother, Kim Hardy of Moweaqua, IL; father, Clay Hardy, of Tower Hill, IL; maternal grandmother Glenda Jackson of Pana, IL; paternal grandparents Charles and Carleen (Allen) Jackson of Tower Hill, IL; brother, Joshua and Kimberly Hardy of Appleton, WI; nephews, Malcom, Vincent and Winston Hardy of Appleton, WI; uncles, Luke Hardy of Tower Hill, IL, Chad and Carrie Hardy of Moweaqua, IL, and Matt and Dawn Hardy of Tower Hill, IL; Aunt, Jackie (Jackson) and Jim Mrosko of Assumption, IL. He is also survived by his favorite in-laws Kathy and Harold Crackel, Sara and Josh Johnson and nephews Landon and Logan Johnson all of Mt. Carmel IL and lifelong friend Curtis Morrison of Tower Hill IL.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kate Elizabeth Hardy; maternal grandfather, Gary Jackson.

There will be a drive through visitation on Wednesday November 25, 2020 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel (Enter off of Sixth Street). A graveside will follow at 12:30 pm at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel.

William Melvin “Will” Cooley, 82

William Melvin “Will” Cooley, 82, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully Friday, November 20, 2020 at his residence. Will was born May 14, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas the son of Melvin John and Ruby (Cain) Cooley. On August 3, 1968 Will married Mary Peach at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel.

Will enjoyed his Class of 1956 of McKinley High School in Coffeyville KS. He is a member of Gospel Kingdom Church in Mt. Carmel. He loved his church and enjoyed teaching the young men at the Church.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy as Petty Officer 1st Class Air Traffic Controller. He worked as a repairman for A T & T. He was a member of VFW, American Legion and Communications Workers of America.

Those left to share Will’s memory include his wife Mary; children, Coleen Cooley Nunley and husband Jason K. of Tulsa OK, Erin Heather Broedel and husband Patrick of Mt. Carmel, John Franklin Cooley and wife Amy of Owasso, OK; grandchildren, Cayla Critcheloe and husband Jeremy, Cameron Goff and husband Dustin, Cody, Collin and Caitlyn Broedel, William, Mackenzie, Emmitt, Nash Cooley; great grandchildren, Mary, Boaz, and Israel Critcheloe, Rylan and Dylan Goff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Cooley.

Family and friends may visit the family at Gospel Kingdom Church Monday November 23, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service celebrating Will’s life will be held at the Gospel Kingdom Church on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Burial service will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Military Rites.

Jack Hall, 74

Jack Hall, 74, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital surrounded by the love of his family.

Jack was born August 10, 1946, the son of Elvis Ray and Clara Mae (Hensley) Hall Paille in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. Jack proudly served in the United States Army Intelligence Unit from 1965-1968.

After his tour with the United States Army, Jack attended Wabash Valley College for two years. On March 17, 1978, Jack married Diana S. Phebus in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

He was a member of Parkview Christian Church. Jack worked as a plumber-pipefitter in the construction business.

He belonged to the Plumber and Steamfitters Local 136 of Evansville, Indiana, for thirty-seven plus years. Jack loved hunting, fishing, boating, watching football and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish Jack’s memory are his wife of 42 years, Diana, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; children, Clarissa (Randy) VanVickle of Covington, Indiana, R. Derick (Laura) Wiggins of Jasper, Indiana, David (Kerry) Hall of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Erin L. (George) McCullough of Naperville, Illinois; grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander and Zachary VanVickle, Riley, Josie and Ella Wiggins, Lauren and Kourtney Hall, and, Jules and Jackson McCullough; step-brother, Rod (Maria) Paille and step-sister, Betsy (Craig) Whaley, both of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; siblings, Marilyn (Jim) Kieffer of Inverness, Florida and Diane Tomas of Evansville, Indiana.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Phillip Paille and step-sister Peggy Edwards.

A Private Graveside Service for Family and close friends will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden Mausoleum in Highland Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Patricia J. Slunder, 85

Patricia J. Slunder, 85, of Allendale, Illinois, formerly of Owensville, Indiana, passed away November 16, 2020, at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

She was born June 14, 1935, the daughter of Marvin and Nella Mae (Smith) Merritt in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Patricia attended Mt. Carmel High School and obtained her GED at the age of 53. On May 6, 1965, she married Jack Raymond Slunder in Shawneetown, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2005, after 40 years of marriage.

Patricia and Jack owned and ran Bayou Bait Shop located south of East Mt. Carmel, IN. Later she was manager of Busler Truck Stop in Haubstadt, IN.

Left to cherish Patricia’s memory is her son Scott Slunder and his wife Robin of Cabot, Arkansas; and three grandsons, Jake, Zachary and Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Shirley Sherman and Barbara White.

Visitation for Patricia will be Saturday, November 21, 2020, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Louise Colette (Steckler) Peter, 97

Louise Colette (Steckler) Peter, 97, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020, at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton, Indiana. She was born on December 7, 1922, in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Herman Anthony and Louisa Rose (Trapp) Steckler. Louise married Joseph F. Peter on November 24, 1942 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois. Together, Joe and Louise enjoyed seventy two years of marriage before his passing on July 21, 2015.

Louise was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband, Joe, were devoted to raising their family in a loving, faith-filled home. Louise enjoyed riding her horse, Barney, on the family’s dairy/grain farm where she learned the value of hard work and dedication. Louise and Joe owned Third Street Laundromat for many years. Louise had many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress, even making her daughter’s wedding dress. She graduated from cosmetology school. Louise loved music, family meals and time with her grandchildren. She could grow a bountiful garden, always sharing it with others. In their retirement years, Louise and Joe enjoyed traveling the world together. She remained active in the community doing volunteer work. Louise was a devout Catholic, cherished by many and will be dearly missed.

Louise will be remembered by her children, Bernard Peter and wife Carolyn of Evansville, IN, Charlene Ebbott of Indianapolis, IN, Kenneth Peter and wife Naomi of Danville, CA, Marcia Barnlund (deceased), and Barbara Liddle of Princeton, IN; eight grandchildren, Kathy Kaiper, Chris Ebbott, Heather Carroll, Brent Barnlund, Elliott Liddle, Tiffany Barnlund, Emily Liddle and Lindsey Peter; eight great-grandchildren, Shane and Bryce Kaiper, Jackson and Clover Ebbott, Coleton and Cian Carroll, Savannah and Aiden Barnlund; sister, Virginia Cado.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Peter; daughter, Marcia Barnlund; brothers, Robert, Herman J., Sylvester and Norman; daughter-in-law, Donna Nelson Peter; sons-in-law, James Ebbott, Ronald Barnlund and Donald Liddle, Jr.

Due to the current Covid Pandemic, a Mass of Christian burial will be privately held. Louise will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
