Baby Ramzey Phoenyx Linson, earned her angel wings on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel, Illinois. Baby Ramzey is survived by her parents Reghan Lewis and Chase Linson. She is also survived by her two-year-old big sister, Rinley Linson; maternal grandparents, James and Jeanette Lewis; paternal grandparents, Charis Adams and Daniel Linson; several aunts and uncles.

Baby Ramzey is deeply loved by her mommy, daddy and big sister. She will always be their little angel girl. The family would like to thank family and friends for their love and support during this time.

Melba J. Sizemore, 74

Melba J. Sizemore, 74, of West Salem, Illinois, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on July 10, 1945 in Edwards County, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd and Clara (Bushers) Vickers. She married Jerry L. Sizemore on September 5, 1981 at Mesa Lake and he preceded her in death on Monday, July 1, 2013.

Melba loved her family and grandchildren. She was a very hard worker and loved working as a supervisor for Champion Laboratories in West Salem for over forty-six years where she made many friendships. Melba was the happiest when she was spending time with family at Mesa Lake. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Melba will be remembered by her four sons, Rickie (Patti) Skees of Bone Gap; Robert (Debbie) Skees of Peoria, Ariz., Ryan (Linda) Skees of Mount Carmel and Tim (Nona) Sizemore of Perkins, OK; two daughters, Tina (Ron) Pressley of Newburgh, IN and Susan Knowles of Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Josh Garman, Jacob Garman, Zachary (Bridgette) Skees, Taylor (Brandon) Crawford, Kylee Skees, Kara (Kyle) Boozer, Ciara (Matt) Orr, Jordan (Bailey) Cox, Bonnie Cox, Shelby Skees, Niki Knowles, Melinda Knowles, Danielle (James) Gosnell, Sara (Toby) Robison and Shnine Knowles; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Floydene Gentz of West Salem and Louise Stilley of De Motte, IN; several nieces and nephews; and close friend, Cheryl Mitchell.

William Eugene “Bill” Beckerman, 90

William Eugene “Bill” Beckerman, 90, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on May 5, 1929 in the family home in rural Wabash County, Illinois, the sixth of seven children to Anthony and Augusta Louisa (Ewald) Beckerman.  He was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School Class of 1947.  Bill entered into the United States Army on December 11, 1950 and was honorably discharged on September 6, 1956.  Bill married Betty Jean Lashbrook on August 12, 1951 and she preceded him in death on September 24, 1998.  Following her passing, Bill married Lois Beck in 1999 who also preceded him in death.  Bill married Jeannie Hart on May 19, 2010 and she survives.  Through the years, Bill was blessed with many extended family members whom he loved.

Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a young man and served Him faithfully throughout the remainder of his life. Bill was a hard worker as a lifetime farmer in Wabash County. Among Bill’s hobbies, he was an avid golfer and loved spending time with family and friends on the golf course. He was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan. Bill was the co-owner of Guy Hadley’s Cafe from 1984 through 1999, and spent many Sunday lunches visiting with the diners..

 Bill was a faithful member of Community Church of God.  He was active in the Church and served as treasurer, trustee, Sunday school superintendent as well as serving on the missions committee.  Bill also enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher with Betty for nearly fifty years.  Bill will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

 Bill will be remembered by his loving wife, Jeannie Beckerman of Mount Carmel; son, Terry Beckerman and wife Beth; three grandchildren, Brittany Campagna and husband Eric, Trey Beckerman and wife Kelsey, Cara Leach and husband Jonathan; five great grandchildren, Carter, Cohen and Ila Campagna, Phoebe and Olivia Leach; one brother, Virgil Beckerman of Princeton, IN; three nephews and four nieces.

 Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Betty Beckerman and Lois Beckerman; brothers, Robert and Raymond Beckerman; sisters, Alkalethia Beckerman, Betty Hershberger and RoseAnn Smith; nephew, Larry Beckerman, niece, Barbara Fiscus; and grandniece, Lisa Goodson.

Myrtle M. (Bosecker) Hocking, 101

Myrtle M. (Bosecker) Hocking, 101, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away July 19, 2019.

 Myrtle was born July 5, 1918, in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Jacob and Rosa (Barchet) Bosecker.

 She married Robert C. Hocking on December 31, 1939.  He preceded her in death in 1998. 

 Myrtle had fond memories of her youth at Friedens United Church of Christ.  She was a member of Keensburg Christian Church, ever ready to lend a hand to others.  She had been a 4-H leader, a member of Homemakers Extension, and looked forward to community events such as the local chowder.

 Throughout their life together, she and Robert enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially square dancing and playing cards.  Myrtle was an avid, talented quilter, and never wasted a minute sitting idly – a crochet project would often be close at hand.  In later years, she could be found at the Senior Citizens Center creating ceramic pieces.

 The family expresses appreciation to all who have given Myrtle loving care, with special thanks to Robin and Jan at Acorn Estates.

 Surviving are three children, Irma Hocking, Melvin Hocking and his wife Marilyn, and, Keith Hocking and his wife Vicki.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, Martha Buckley, Mark Hocking, Kristi Wright, Brad Hocking, Michael Hocking and Melanie Merrill; and, eleven great-grandchildren.

 Preceding Myrtle in death were her parents, Jacob and Rosa Bosecker; husband, Robert; and brothers, Gerald, Harold, Irvin, Raymond, Edgar, Albert and Arthur Bosecker, and, a sister, Valeria Goebel.

 A celebration of life will be held at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Georgia E. Kamp, 96

Georgia E. Kamp, 96, of Bellmont, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on June 1, 1923 in Martinsburg, PA, the daughter of Lorenzo and Edith (Fink) Brown.  She married Novie Kamp on June 23, 1943, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2011.

 Georgia faithfully served her Country in the United States Air Force where she worked as an airplane mechanic during World War II.  During her service, she earned the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  Georgia loved living in Bellmont and enjoyed taking care of the neighborhood kids.  She loved animals especially her dog Cloe, whom she often referred to as “little brown dog”. 

 Georgia will be remembered by her daughters, Dorothy Orenda and Zoella (Keith) Berberich; grandchildren, Anthony Roberts, Chris (Staci) Roberts, Pepper (Troy) Mullins, Holly (Shane) Vaughn, Shane (Annette) Orenda and Stefan Orenda; great grandchildren, David Roberts, Dakota Mullins, Krystina Roberts, Shane Orenda, Jr., Josie Orenda, William Mayberry, Natalie Roberts, Novie Orenda, Brayden Vaughn and Greyson Roberts; great great grandchildren, Aurora Tamez and Kiara Mullins.

 Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; several brothers and sisters.

Kenda Gail Proctor, 54

Kenda Gail Proctor, 54, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at home with loved ones at her side. She was born December 17, 1964 in Grayville, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth Proctor and Mary Staley Proctor.

Kenda was self-employed in the housekeeping business. She was very artistic and loved to draw. She regularly expressed herself in writing. Kenda accumulated a very extensive collection of poems she has written over the years. She dearly loved Gracie, the cat she rescued fifteen years ago, and Gracie was a great comfort to her during her illness. Kenda will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Kenda will be remembered by her fiancé, Gary Wright; brother, David (April) Proctor of Flora, IL; cousins, Laurie Beppler of Fairfield, IL, Ronnie Boultinghouse of Vincennes, IN; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Kent (Rose) McTaggart.

Kenda was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Steve Proctor.

Keith Collin Smith, 71

Keith Collin Smith, 71, of Olney, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his residence. Keith was born on January 2, 1948 in Olney, IL, the son of Orien and Evelyn (Worrell) Smith. He married Karen Schroeder on October 8, 1978 at Parkview Christian Church in Mt. Carmel and she survives.

Keith was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and loved his grandchildren. Keith never met a stranger and enjoyed his Church family and participating in Church at Mt. Gilead, where he was a member.

Keith is survived by his wife, Karen Smith, of Olney, IL; daughter, Debra Hardig and husband Leo, of Oblong, IL; daughter, Misty Scherer and husband Scott, of Olney, IL; daughter, Jennie Ingold and husband Jeff, of Paxton, IL; grandchildren, Jonah and Sydney Scherer, Carter and Callie Ingold and Aiden Hardig; sister, Doris Sink of Auburn, IN; sister, Sally Weber and husband Jim, of Newton, IL; brother, Ronnie Smith, of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Sandy Brandt and husband Fred, of Olney, IL; sister, Diane Hufford, of Acworth, GA; brother-in-law, Robert Miller, of Newton, IL; sister-in-law, Kathy Dersch, of Mt. Fred L. McGee, 74

Fred L. McGee, 74, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away July 8, 2019, at Midtown Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born August 15, 1944, in Tell City, Indiana, the son of Theophilus and Emma (Jackson) McGee. On March 29, 1964, Fred married the love of his life, Linda French, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Fred was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Mt. Carmel. He worked as a commercial truck driver his entire life. Fred was quite the jokester and never met a stranger. He enjoyed attending car shows and loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Left to cherish Fred’s memory is his wife of 55 years, Linda; children, Terry McGee and his wife Rhonda of Mt. Carmel; Fred McGee and his wife Sheila of Mt. Carmel; Kimberley Fryrear and fiancé Jason Huck of Patoka, Indiana; Michelle Slunder and her husband Karl of Mt. Carmel; Jamie McGee and his fiancé Brittany Strockbine of Lawrenceville, Illinois; Nick McGee and his wife Audrey of Mt. Carmel; 15 grandchildren, Zach, Sarah, Tasha, Shea, Zach, Brad, D.J. Susan E. “Sue” Vail, 66

Susan E. “Sue” Vail, 66, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at her residence. She was born on January 30, 1953 in Mount Carmel, Illinois the daughter of William and Mildred (Weiler) Vail.

Sue will be remembered for her infectious personality and always being the life of the party. To many Sue was the type of person you could count on for a hug, smile or laugh. She had a very giving spirit and would do anything to help others. Sue loved her family and her nieces and nephews held a special place in her heart. Sue was their biggest cheerleader and made it a priority to attend all of their birthdays and special events. To all her nieces and nephews, Sue was known as the cool Aunt, this was a title she was very proud of. She had the most infectious laugh and had a true gift of being able to laugh at herself when she made a mistake instead of being down on herself.

Sue was a dedicated to her work as a Master Medical Coder. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Sue loved animals especially her cats, Shadow, Toby and Roxy. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Mary Fay Wyatt, 83

Mary Fay Wyatt, 83, of Mt. Carmel, passed away June 29, 2019, at her residence.

Mary was born November 12, 1935, in Charleston, Illinois, the eldest daughter of William and Helen Nora (McMillan) Ballard. On March 11, 1956, Mary married Bernard Wyatt at the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ for over 60 plus years and a lifetime member of the Torchbearer Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Mary was a recognized local business owner reinventing the services provided through the years starting with a cabinet shop and building construction, with an expansion of the purchase of the present store location in 1973 to include a craft supply area, Western Union services, Radio Shack, to present day metal salvage recycling. Her greatest pride was learning to paint and ultimately teaching painting classes through Wabash Valley College and the many friendships she developed in Mt. Carmel. She will be missed by all.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory is her husband of 63 years, Bernard; children, Julie Love and her husband Dawson of Biloxi, Mississippi, Marvin Wyatt and his wife Stacy of Mt. Richard Gerard Fuss, 83

Richard Gerard Fuss, 83, from Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away June 25, 2019, at his residence.

He was born July 23, 1935, in Cook County, Illinois, the son of Adolph G. and Elsie L. (Kingstrom) Fuss. On July 18, 1959, Richard married Mary Jane Mish at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Richard was an automobile mechanic his entire life. Everyone knew him as the “Lone Ranger.” With this distinction he did several radio and television spots.

Left to cherish Richard’s memory is a niece, nephew, special friends--Jamie McGee and family, and several community friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Sylvia L. Lynch, 67, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at her son’s home in Mount Carmel surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on October 18, 1951 in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Derwood and Mable (Sisk) Walls.  Sylvia married Jim Lynch on August 14, 1993 and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2014.  Together they loved their time they spent on Mesa Lake.

Sylvia loved her family and grandchildren.  She had a very strong work ethic and loved her friendships she made while working at Champion Laboratories, Snap-On Tools, TISA and Moto Rad.  She loved animals especially her cats, Snowball, Shuggie and Smoky.  Sylvia will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Sylvia will be remembered by her two sons, Larry Isaac and wife Ethel of Calhoun, IL and Doug Isaac and wife Michelle of Mount Carmel; two grandsons, Reece and Evan Isaac; lifelong family friend whom Sylvia thought of as a son, Travis Hering; brother, Henry (Willie) Walls of Princeton, IN; sister, Ida Struble of Silver City, New Mexico; her furry grand dog, Harley; many loved nieces and nephews.

Kenneth G. Spore, 59

Kenneth G. Spore, 59, of Mount Carmel Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1959 in Mount Carmel, the son of Kenneth Spore and Diane Newkirk. On November 19, 1982 he married Robin Wyatt and she survives.

Kenny worked many years in manufacturing, first at Snap On Tools for twenty years and then Toyota Motor Manufacturing for ten years until his retirement. From a young age Kenny loved the outdoors. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a proud NRA supporter. He dearly loved his family. Kenny was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of Heartland Worship Center. Kenny will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Kenny will be remembered by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Robin; sons, Ryan Spore and Jed Spore; grandchildren, Connor Spore, Millie Spore, Keith Spore and Jocelyn Brown; mother, Diane Newkirk; brothers, Terry (Claudia) Spore, Tom (Suzi) Spore, Larry (Charla) Newkirk, Jerry (Linda) Spore; sisters, Susan Price, Debra Carie; special aunt, Laverne Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Joseph Koenig, 89

Charles Joseph Koenig, 89, of Seymour, Missouri, formerly of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on February 17, 1930, in Michael, Illinois, the son of Charles A. and Alma Roentz Koenig.

 Charlie graduated from Jerseyville Community High School in 1948 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a radio operator.  He married Beulah E. Wieneke on August 16, 1952, most recently celebrating sixty-six years of marriage. Charlie was a member of St. Mary’s and St. Sebastian Catholic Churches in Wabash County, IL, and St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ava, MO.  He and his wife moved to Southwest Missouri in 2011; living on his son’s farm until his passing.

 After their marriage, Charlie worked as a carpenter, building several homes in the Jerseyville area, including the first house for his new family.  He then attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, where he was part of the first class to receive the Smith Hughes Degree in Vocational Education.

 Charlie’s first job after college was teaching Vocational Agriculture in Newton, Illinois.  After teaching for a couple of years, he served as the Youth Advisor and assistant farm advisor with the Agricultural Extension Service in Jasper County, IL.  He later accepted the Agr Extension Advisor position in Wabash County, IL, where he worked until retirement.  While serving in Wabash County, Charlie helped establish the Wabash County 4-H Center and skating rink.  In 1971, he attended the University of Illinois and received his Master’s Degree in Agronomy. 

 Charlie loved serving others and doing about anything “outdoors”, especially camping, canoeing, and fishing with family.  He served on many Boards during his years as the Agr Advisor: Fair Board, Youth Foundation Board, Region 16 Man Power Committee being appointed by Governor Daniel Walker, CHIPS, WAVE, Agr Extension Council and Executive Council, Farm Bureau, Greater Wabash Health Advisory, High School Advisory Council and the WVC Advisory Council.  He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Rotary, Lancaster Rotary, Lion’s Club, American Legion and the Bow Hunters Club.  He also taught high school religion class at St. Mary’s and several classes at Wabash Valley College.         

 Charlie will be remembered by his loving wife; sons, Stephen (Jean) Koenig, Vernon (Trish) Koenig, Raymond (Tammy) Koenig, Marvin Koenig and Brian Koenig; daughter, Carolyn (Terry) Myers; fifteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

 Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Alan J. Koenig; his parents; sister, Mary Jean Heath; a niece and three nephews. 

 Family and friends are invited to gather for a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.  A Visitation will follow the Rosary Service until 6:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father Robert Zwilling officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mount Carmel.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Charlie’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Sebastian Catholic Church.  Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home 1500 N. Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.

Kirk Anthony Dougherty, 61

Kirk Anthony Dougherty, 61, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Kirk was born November 5, 1957 in Mt. Carmel, IL to Elbert E. Dougherty, Jr. and Carolyn Joyce (Trimble) Dougherty. He graduated Mt. Carmel High School, Wabash Valley College, and earned Associate Degree in Petroleum Technology from Midland College.

He worked for over twenty years in the oil production field industry as Geological Technician with several firms; RK Petroleum, El Paso Energy Corporation, Vintage Petroleum , Inc., Santa Fe Minerals, Inc., and Chesapeake Energy, Inc.

Kirk enjoyed hunting, collecting coins and arrowheads. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, OKC Thunder, Oklahoma Sooners and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also ran in 5K and 10K marathons.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel, Elks Lodge #715 and Knights of Columbus.

Kirk was a devoted father to his two daughters, Carolyn Rose Dougherty and Catherine Grace Dougherty. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers Joseph William (Margaret) Dougherty, Timothy John Dougherty; and grandson Jack Leroy O’Donnell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sabrina Dougherty Risley and brothers Mark Vincent Dougherty and Patrick Alan Dougherty

Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Funeral Service will be Friday, June 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Robert G. Richardson, 88

Robert G. Richardson, 88, of Evansville, Indiana; formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Evansville, IN, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born July 2, 1930 in Browns, Illinois the son of Thomas F. and Florence (Deisher) Richardson.  He married Stella LaVerne  Matchell on January 26, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Robert was proud of his service to his country in the U.S. Army and was privileged to be included in the Honor Flight Program in November 2018.

He loved working in his garden and spending time with his family and watching it grow.  He was employed at Snap-On Tools in custodial work.

Bob is survived by his children, David Richardson of Evansville, IN, James (Carie) Richardson of Mt. Carmel, Brenda (Chuck) Persinger of Evansville, IN; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Goodman of Mt. Carmel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Gladys Fortner, sister, Mary Rayborn, brother, John Richardson and infant brother, Frederick T. Richardson.

Funeral service for Bob will be Wednesday June 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, IL. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery on College Drive in Mt. Carmel.

Meta Ilse Metzinger Gillette, 82

Meta Ilse Metzinger Gillette passed away in her home on June 7th, 2019.  She was born May 21st, 1937, in Karlsruhe, Germany, where she spent most of her early life, except during a part of WWII, when she was moved to Holland for safety.  She met our father Gordon when he was stationed in Germany, and they married there.  When his tour was over, she moved with him to America, making her first (and last) voyage on a large ship.  She neither spoke, read or wrote in the English language, and it was a time of great upheaval for her. They lived in Urbana as he completed his degree at the University of Illinois.  In 1960 they had a daughter there, and then returned to Germany, where he taught for two years at one of the US Military bases. After their return, they moved to Homer, Illinois where dad taught in the High School.  They rented a house out in the countryside, which was extremely hard on a city girl with a 3 year old daughter and a newborn son in 1963, with the nearest neighbor a mile down the road.  During all that time she was learning to speak, read and write English, and in October of 1965, she finally reached one of her proudest achievements, her United States Citizenship.  The language was a hard battle for her, but she wanted to become an American, and with great effort on her part, she attained that sought after distinction.  During that time in America, Germans were not always welcomed, especially in rural areas, since so many had lost children there during the war.  But she and her family had been grateful to the rescuing Americans, and she strove hard to become one of them.  In 1966, they moved back to first Mainz, and then Wiesbaden, Germany, where she raised two overly active young children while he taught for a year in each military base high school.  She was back in the city life, with people who spoke like her, and it was then that she and our dad took us on trips all over the surrounding area.  We were tiny tourists, with vague memories of vineyards, castles, carnivals with great bratwurst, and cruising the Rhine River on tourist boats. We found out what it was like to not be able to speak the language, but at least we always had our translators with us, and they taught us the phrases we needed to get around, which consisted mainly of the prices of our favorites at the candy pushcarts and communicating with the city bus drivers.  Once again, our dad moved her, and now us, too, back to America, where he again moved her to that same house in the countryside. As adults, now, it is hard to imagine how that must have been, with no 2nd car, alone all day except for two kids always scrapping with each other, and no cable or social media to escape to.  Finally, in 1969, our Albion grandfather inadvertently came to her rescue when he noticed not only a house for sale, but a teaching position in neighboring Mt. Carmel.  And that’s when we moved south to the “big time”, compared to rural Homer.  Other than the yearly classic Americana “family vacation”, return family visits to Germany, and a trip to visit her daughter and son-in-law to the land of dreams of her beloved Elvis, “Blue Hawaii”, she never left that house until her passing 50 years later.  During that time she worked hard for her family.  She didn’t get a driver’s license until after being in America for 14 years, but then she was mobile and loved having her own car.  She push-mowed a huge yard for a good part of that time, and loved her plants inside, flowers and garden outside.  She refused to get a “modern” washing machine and used a scary ringer washer well into the ‘80s.  She did all our sewing on a beautiful old Singer treadle sewing machine.  In the late ‘70s she thoroughly enjoyed taking a furniture refinishing class at the local high school with “Mr. Belt”, and was so very proud of our now beautiful rolltop desk and 4-poster antique bedroom sets that she refurbished.  She was fiercely defensive of her children, and then her beloved granddaughters as they, too, grew up to be fine adults.  She loved to go for long walks around the neighborhood, but in the past couple of years, all that became slower and slower.  We cannot recall her going to a doctor in over 40 years; I think she always thought that would “be the end”.  When she finally had to go there, that was indeed the case, and she lasted about another 48 hours, which was probably for the best, since she did NOT want to leave her house.  She was long ago predeceased by her parents, Elsa and Wilhelm Metzinger, whom we never met, and her only brother Willi, and then in 2013, her husband of 55 years, Gordon.  Almost all of her relatives in Germany are long passed.  Surviving, in order of age, are her sister-in-law Wanda Bailey of California, her daughter Rose Daugherty (Mitch) of Virginia, her son Raymond of West Salem, who was a great source of comfort and assistance these last months, his “girls”, granddaughters Holly Gourieux (Daniel) of Evansville and Hannah Taylor (Beau), along with their future first great-grandchild of Keensburg.  Mom will be cremated, with a family graveside service and interment next to dad, in the Bone Gap family plot at a later date.  Any memorial donations can be made to the local Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies, found online via Facebook, and located at 11336 N 1550 Blvd, Mt Carmel, IL 62863 or at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, P.O. Robert Joseph "Joe" Yonaka, 80

Robert Joseph "Joe" Yonaka, 80, of Parkersburg, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 at his residence.  Joe was born on August 9, 1938 in Berryville, IL, the son of Howard Henry and Geneva (Weagel) Yonaka.  He married Ruth (Walker) on May 27, 1961 at the West Salem Moravian Church and she survives.

 Joe was a railroad agent with Norfolk Southern Railway and retired in 1999 after nearly 39 years. He was also a lifelong grain farmer. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, with his dog by his side. He enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO, trips out West on the Amtrak train, and spending winters in Mission, TX. He took pleasure in playing cards, shooting pool, and visiting with friends over coffee at McDonald's. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting activities as well as being a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Joe will be missed by all those that knew him.

Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Yonaka of Parkersburg; daughter, Susan Stoltz and husband David of Mt. Carmel, IL; daughter, Beth Etzkorn and husband D-Ray of Allendale, IL; daughter, Cindy Bailey and husband Ron of Olney; son, Chris Yonaka of New Baden, IL; grandchildren, Kristen (Dennis) Pasche, Adam Stoltz, Eric (Tori) Stoltz, Sara (Eric) Scherer, Troy Stoltz, Karissa (Justin) Bobbitt, Megan Etzkorn, Colton Etzkorn, Brandon (Kate) Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Justin Bailey, Christina Bailey, Holden Yonaka, and Karsen Yonaka; great grandchildren, Scarlett Scherer, Camden Scherer, Casen Bobbitt, and two more on the way.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Yonaka.

 Memorials can be made to the West Salem Moravian Church or St. Louis Hope Lodge.

 A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the West Salem Moravian Church with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery.

Mildred Marie “Mickey” Schroeder, 86

Mildred Marie “Mickey” Schroeder, 86 of Grayville, Illinois, died Sunday, June 02, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Cowling, Illinois. She was born July 3, 1932, in Smithville, West Virginia, the daughter of Ralph and Edna (Wright) Waggoner.  She was married to Carrol L. Schroeder and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2000.

Mickey was a farmer attended the First Baptist Church in Grayville.  She enjoyed her work and visiting her friends at Mandy’s Restaurant in Grayville.  She loved taking care of her great grandchild, Ella.

Survivors include son Rick (Rena) Schroeder of Grayville; daughters Brenda (Dennis) Kurtz of Grayville, Carol Elaine Trusty of Cowling, Illinois; sister Lenora Bunting; grandchildren Eric (Heather) Schroeder, Stacy (John) Oliver, Ray (Lisa) Kurtz, Mike (Lori) McWilliams, Matthew (Ashley) Schroeder; great grandchildren Ella, Josh, Evan, Gavin, Xander, Kami; step great grandchildren Kala, Kendal, and Stephan.

Mickey is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Kenneth and Phil Waggoner; sisters Mary Sample and Barbara Willett.

Visitation is 5-7 pm, Thursday, June 6, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Grayville.  Funeral is 10 am, Friday, June 7, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Grayville with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.

Bonnie J. Puntney, 86

Bonnie J. Puntney, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on June 12, 1932 in St. Francisville, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Bonnie (Pulleyblank) Stark. She graduated St. Francisville High School Class of 1950. Bonnie married A. W. Puntney and he preceded her in death.

Bonnie was a great educator and had a love for learning.  She started her teaching career in Missouri where she taught in a one room school.  She was a reading coordinator for District 348 for over thirty years.  She helped start the Library at South School.  Bonnie’s family was very dear to her and she treasured the time she spent with them.  She was a member of E.U.M. Church.  Bonnie will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Bonnie will be remembered by her daughter, Bonnie Griggs and husband, Jay of Mount Carmel, IL; grandchildren, Brandon (Sara) Griggs, Ariel Cadigan and Jayla Griggs; great grandson, George Adams-Griggs; several nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, A.W. Puntney; brothers, Emmet “Bus” Stark and Joseph “Bud” Stark; sisters, Geraldine “Jerry” Mossburger and Joan Stephenson.
