Kenneth G. Spore, 59

Kenneth G. Spore, 59, of Mount Carmel Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1959 in Mount Carmel, the son of Kenneth Spore and Diane Newkirk. On November 19, 1982 he married Robin Wyatt and she survives.

Kenny worked many years in manufacturing, first at Snap On Tools for twenty years and then Toyota Motor Manufacturing for ten years until his retirement. From a young age Kenny loved the outdoors. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a proud NRA supporter. He dearly loved his family. Kenny was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of Heartland Worship Center. Kenny will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Kenny will be remembered by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Robin; sons, Ryan Spore and Jed Spore; grandchildren, Connor Spore, Millie Spore, Keith Spore and Jocelyn Brown; mother, Diane Newkirk; brothers, Terry (Claudia) Spore, Tom (Suzi) Spore, Larry (Charla) Newkirk, Jerry (Linda) Spore; sisters, Susan Price, Debra Carie; special aunt, Laverne Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by his father; brother, Robert Spore; sister, Carol Downing; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Doyne McGrew; in-laws, Keith and Mary Ann Wyatt and Jean Wyatt.

In keeping with Kenny’s wishes, a private Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

Charles Joseph Koenig, 89

Charles Joseph Koenig, 89, of Seymour, Missouri, formerly of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on February 17, 1930, in Michael, Illinois, the son of Charles A. and Alma Roentz Koenig.

 Charlie graduated from Jerseyville Community High School in 1948 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a radio operator.  He married Beulah E. Wieneke on August 16, 1952, most recently celebrating sixty-six years of marriage. Charlie was a member of St. Mary’s and St. Sebastian Catholic Churches in Wabash County, IL, and St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ava, MO.  He and his wife moved to Southwest Missouri in 2011; living on his son’s farm until his passing.

 After their marriage, Charlie worked as a carpenter, building several homes in the Jerseyville area, including the first house for his new family.  He then attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, where he was part of the first class to receive the Smith Hughes Degree in Vocational Education.

 Charlie’s first job after college was teaching Vocational Agriculture in Newton, Illinois.  After teaching for a couple of years, he served as the Youth Advisor and assistant farm advisor with the Agricultural Extension Service in Jasper County, IL.  He later accepted the Agr Extension Advisor position in Wabash County, IL, where he worked until retirement.  While serving in Wabash County, Charlie helped establish the Wabash County 4-H Center and skating rink.  In 1971, he attended the University of Illinois and received his Master’s Degree in Agronomy. 

 Charlie loved serving others and doing about anything “outdoors”, especially camping, canoeing, and fishing with family.  He served on many Boards during his years as the Agr Advisor: Fair Board, Youth Foundation Board, Region 16 Man Power Committee being appointed by Governor Daniel Walker, CHIPS, WAVE, Agr Extension Council and Executive Council, Farm Bureau, Greater Wabash Health Advisory, High School Advisory Council and the WVC Advisory Council.  He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Rotary, Lancaster Rotary, Lion’s Club, American Legion and the Bow Hunters Club.  He also taught high school religion class at St. Mary’s and several classes at Wabash Valley College.         

 Charlie will be remembered by his loving wife; sons, Stephen (Jean) Koenig, Vernon (Trish) Koenig, Raymond (Tammy) Koenig, Marvin Koenig and Brian Koenig; daughter, Carolyn (Terry) Myers; fifteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

 Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Alan J. Koenig; his parents; sister, Mary Jean Heath; a niece and three nephews. 

 Family and friends are invited to gather for a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.  A Visitation will follow the Rosary Service until 6:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father Robert Zwilling officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mount Carmel.

Kirk Anthony Dougherty, 61

Kirk Anthony Dougherty, 61, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Kirk was born November 5, 1957 in Mt. Carmel, IL to Elbert E. Dougherty, Jr. and Carolyn Joyce (Trimble) Dougherty. He graduated Mt. Carmel High School, Wabash Valley College, and earned Associate Degree in Petroleum Technology from Midland College.

He worked for over twenty years in the oil production field industry as Geological Technician with several firms; RK Petroleum, El Paso Energy Corporation, Vintage Petroleum , Inc., Santa Fe Minerals, Inc., and Chesapeake Energy, Inc.

Kirk enjoyed hunting, collecting coins and arrowheads. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, OKC Thunder, Oklahoma Sooners and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also ran in 5K and 10K marathons.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel, Elks Lodge #715 and Knights of Columbus.

Kirk was a devoted father to his two daughters, Carolyn Rose Dougherty and Catherine Grace Dougherty. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers Joseph William (Margaret) Dougherty, Timothy John Dougherty; and grandson Jack Leroy O’Donnell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sabrina Dougherty Risley and brothers Mark Vincent Dougherty and Patrick Alan Dougherty

Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Funeral Service will be Friday, June 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Robert G. Richardson, 88

Robert G. Richardson, 88, of Evansville, Indiana; formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Evansville, IN, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born July 2, 1930 in Browns, Illinois the son of Thomas F. and Florence (Deisher) Richardson.  He married Stella LaVerne  Matchell on January 26, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Robert was proud of his service to his country in the U.S. Army and was privileged to be included in the Honor Flight Program in November 2018.

He loved working in his garden and spending time with his family and watching it grow.  He was employed at Snap-On Tools in custodial work.

Bob is survived by his children, David Richardson of Evansville, IN, James (Carie) Richardson of Mt. Carmel, Brenda (Chuck) Persinger of Evansville, IN; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Goodman of Mt. Carmel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Gladys Fortner, sister, Mary Rayborn, brother, John Richardson and infant brother, Frederick T. Richardson.

Funeral service for Bob will be Wednesday June 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, IL. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery on College Drive in Mt. Carmel.

Meta Ilse Metzinger Gillette, 82

Meta Ilse Metzinger Gillette passed away in her home on June 7th, 2019.  She was born May 21st, 1937, in Karlsruhe, Germany, where she spent most of her early life, except during a part of WWII, when she was moved to Holland for safety.  She met our father Gordon when he was stationed in Germany, and they married there.  When his tour was over, she moved with him to America, making her first (and last) voyage on a large ship.  She neither spoke, read or wrote in the English language, and it was a time of great upheaval for her. They lived in Urbana as he completed his degree at the University of Illinois.  In 1960 they had a daughter there, and then returned to Germany, where he taught for two years at one of the US Military bases. After their return, they moved to Homer, Illinois where dad taught in the High School.  They rented a house out in the countryside, which was extremely hard on a city girl with a 3 year old daughter and a newborn son in 1963, with the nearest neighbor a mile down the road.  During all that time she was learning to speak, read and write English, and in October of 1965, she finally reached one of her proudest achievements, her United States Citizenship.  The language was a hard battle for her, but she wanted to become an American, and with great effort on her part, she attained that sought after distinction.  During that time in America, Germans were not always welcomed, especially in rural areas, since so many had lost children there during the war.  But she and her family had been grateful to the rescuing Americans, and she strove hard to become one of them.  In 1966, they moved back to first Mainz, and then Wiesbaden, Germany, where she raised two overly active young children while he taught for a year in each military base high school.  She was back in the city life, with people who spoke like her, and it was then that she and our dad took us on trips all over the surrounding area.  We were tiny tourists, with vague memories of vineyards, castles, carnivals with great bratwurst, and cruising the Rhine River on tourist boats. We found out what it was like to not be able to speak the language, but at least we always had our translators with us, and they taught us the phrases we needed to get around, which consisted mainly of the prices of our favorites at the candy pushcarts and communicating with the city bus drivers.  Once again, our dad moved her, and now us, too, back to America, where he again moved her to that same house in the countryside. As adults, now, it is hard to imagine how that must have been, with no 2nd car, alone all day except for two kids always scrapping with each other, and no cable or social media to escape to.  Finally, in 1969, our Albion grandfather inadvertently came to her rescue when he noticed not only a house for sale, but a teaching position in neighboring Mt. Carmel.  And that’s when we moved south to the “big time”, compared to rural Homer.  Other than the yearly classic Americana “family vacation”, return family visits to Germany, and a trip to visit her daughter and son-in-law to the land of dreams of her beloved Elvis, “Blue Hawaii”, she never left that house until her passing 50 years later.  During that time she worked hard for her family.  She didn’t get a driver’s license until after being in America for 14 years, but then she was mobile and loved having her own car.  She push-mowed a huge yard for a good part of that time, and loved her plants inside, flowers and garden outside.  She refused to get a “modern” washing machine and used a scary ringer washer well into the ‘80s.  She did all our sewing on a beautiful old Singer treadle sewing machine.  In the late ‘70s she thoroughly enjoyed taking a furniture refinishing class at the local high school with “Mr. Belt”, and was so very proud of our now beautiful rolltop desk and 4-poster antique bedroom sets that she refurbished.  She was fiercely defensive of her children, and then her beloved granddaughters as they, too, grew up to be fine adults.  She loved to go for long walks around the neighborhood, but in the past couple of years, all that became slower and slower.  We cannot recall her going to a doctor in over 40 years; I think she always thought that would “be the end”.  When she finally had to go there, that was indeed the case, and she lasted about another 48 hours, which was probably for the best, since she did NOT want to leave her house.  She was long ago predeceased by her parents, Elsa and Wilhelm Metzinger, whom we never met, and her only brother Willi, and then in 2013, her husband of 55 years, Gordon.  Almost all of her relatives in Germany are long passed.  Surviving, in order of age, are her sister-in-law Wanda Bailey of California, her daughter Rose Daugherty (Mitch) of Virginia, her son Raymond of West Salem, who was a great source of comfort and assistance these last months, his “girls”, granddaughters Holly Gourieux (Daniel) of Evansville and Hannah Taylor (Beau), along with their future first great-grandchild of Keensburg.  Mom will be cremated, with a family graveside service and interment next to dad, in the Bone Gap family plot at a later date.  Any memorial donations can be made to the local Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies, found online via Facebook, and located at 11336 N 1550 Blvd, Mt Carmel, IL 62863 or at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, P.O. Robert Joseph "Joe" Yonaka, 80

Robert Joseph "Joe" Yonaka, 80, of Parkersburg, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 at his residence.  Joe was born on August 9, 1938 in Berryville, IL, the son of Howard Henry and Geneva (Weagel) Yonaka.  He married Ruth (Walker) on May 27, 1961 at the West Salem Moravian Church and she survives.

 Joe was a railroad agent with Norfolk Southern Railway and retired in 1999 after nearly 39 years. He was also a lifelong grain farmer. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, with his dog by his side. He enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO, trips out West on the Amtrak train, and spending winters in Mission, TX. He took pleasure in playing cards, shooting pool, and visiting with friends over coffee at McDonald's. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting activities as well as being a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Joe will be missed by all those that knew him.

Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Yonaka of Parkersburg; daughter, Susan Stoltz and husband David of Mt. Carmel, IL; daughter, Beth Etzkorn and husband D-Ray of Allendale, IL; daughter, Cindy Bailey and husband Ron of Olney; son, Chris Yonaka of New Baden, IL; grandchildren, Kristen (Dennis) Pasche, Adam Stoltz, Eric (Tori) Stoltz, Sara (Eric) Scherer, Troy Stoltz, Karissa (Justin) Bobbitt, Megan Etzkorn, Colton Etzkorn, Brandon (Kate) Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Justin Bailey, Christina Bailey, Holden Yonaka, and Karsen Yonaka; great grandchildren, Scarlett Scherer, Camden Scherer, Casen Bobbitt, and two more on the way.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Yonaka.

Mildred Marie “Mickey” Schroeder, 86

Mildred Marie “Mickey” Schroeder, 86 of Grayville, Illinois, died Sunday, June 02, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Cowling, Illinois. She was born July 3, 1932, in Smithville, West Virginia, the daughter of Ralph and Edna (Wright) Waggoner.  She was married to Carrol L. Schroeder and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2000.

Mickey was a farmer attended the First Baptist Church in Grayville.  She enjoyed her work and visiting her friends at Mandy’s Restaurant in Grayville.  She loved taking care of her great grandchild, Ella.

Survivors include son Rick (Rena) Schroeder of Grayville; daughters Brenda (Dennis) Kurtz of Grayville, Carol Elaine Trusty of Cowling, Illinois; sister Lenora Bunting; grandchildren Eric (Heather) Schroeder, Stacy (John) Oliver, Ray (Lisa) Kurtz, Mike (Lori) McWilliams, Matthew (Ashley) Schroeder; great grandchildren Ella, Josh, Evan, Gavin, Xander, Kami; step great grandchildren Kala, Kendal, and Stephan.

Mickey is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Kenneth and Phil Waggoner; sisters Mary Sample and Barbara Willett.

Visitation is 5-7 pm, Thursday, June 6, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Grayville.  Funeral is 10 am, Friday, June 7, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Grayville with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.

Bonnie J. Puntney, 86

Bonnie J. Puntney, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on June 12, 1932 in St. Francisville, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Bonnie (Pulleyblank) Stark. She graduated St. Francisville High School Class of 1950. Bonnie married A. W. Puntney and he preceded her in death.

Bonnie was a great educator and had a love for learning.  She started her teaching career in Missouri where she taught in a one room school.  She was a reading coordinator for District 348 for over thirty years.  She helped start the Library at South School.  Bonnie’s family was very dear to her and she treasured the time she spent with them.  She was a member of E.U.M. Church.  Bonnie will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Bonnie will be remembered by her daughter, Bonnie Griggs and husband, Jay of Mount Carmel, IL; grandchildren, Brandon (Sara) Griggs, Ariel Cadigan and Jayla Griggs; great grandson, George Adams-Griggs; several nieces and nephews.

Kathryn “Kathy” Jane Armstrong, 53

Kathryn “Kathy” Jane Armstrong, 53, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at home.  She was born November 9, 1965 in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Robert C. and Betty D. (Horrall) Armstrong.

Kathy was employed by Progressive Health, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Manufacturing in the employee screening department.  She was a member of the 1983 graduating class of Mount Carmel High School. She attended Lipscomb University and was a member of the class of 2000 of the Walt Disney College Program at Walt Disney University. Kathy was a member of the Mount Carmel Church of Christ.  She enjoyed playing music with the Wayward Musicians at Hogg Heaven Restaurant on Monday evenings. She loved to cook and tend to her flower garden.  Kathy was a fun-loving person, always had a smile on her face and loved to make people laugh.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Kimberly Sue (Tom) Schalasky of Mount Carmel, Kelley Jean (Jim) Strine of West Salem; brothers, Kerry Vaughn Armstrong of Westfield, IN, and Robert Kevin (Jennifer) Armstrong of Graham, TX; eleven nieces and nephews, twelve great-nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty R. Grewe, 84

Betty R. Grewe, 84, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on November 9, 1934 in White County, Illinois, the daughter of Cyril and Katie (Dauby) Biggerstaff. Betty married Ed Grewe on April 21, 1954 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Enfield, Illinois. Betty and Ed enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage centered on family and living their faith while supporting one another.

Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Those who knew Betty loved her. She had a gift to brighten anyone’s day and truly cared for people. She loved helping others and that was evident in her dedicated volunteer work at Wabash General Hospital, the local nursing homes and at local blood drives. She was very passionate about this work and took great pride in serving others. Betty was a great conversationalist. She was always up to date on current events and had a broad perspective on issues related to history.

Betty and Ed were faithful members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for sixty-three years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella; where she was very active in the interest of the Church while promoting community events. Among Betty’s hobbies she loved to decorate her home for the different seasons. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden.

Betty will be remembered by her loving husband, Ed Grewe of Mount Carmel; son, Stephen (Virginia) Grewe of Westminster, CO; three daughters, Sharon (Robert) Lauchner of Myersville, MD, Linda (Michael) Eirhart of Elkton, MD and Barbara (Rick) Rolston of Decatur, IN; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jorge) Zetino, Jacqueline (Rajashekar) Kieffner, Jason Eirhart, Michelle Eirhart, Katie Eirhart, Travis (Kristy) Rolston; great grandchildren, Chloe Rolston and Landon Rolston; sister, Louise (Gerald) York of Enfield, IL; many loved nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Grewe; two sisters, Rosie Frymire and Lucille Berberich.

John Wesley Yarbor

Rev. John Wesley Yarbor went home to be the Lord Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Oakview Heights with his family at his side.

He was born in rural Keensburg, Illinois, the son of William “Red” Richard Jackson and Ona Minnie (Woods) Yarbor. John attended school at Upper Hills School, Gibson County, Indiana, and Keensburg School, and, was a graduate of Assemblies of God Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri.

John was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. In Korea he served in the 24th Infantry Division, Co. C’s elite 5th Regiment combat team. Military medals awarded were: Good Conduct, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation with Germany Clasp, Purple Heart, American Campaign, Korean Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. John was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He married Bessie Lou Barber at the Mt. Carmel Grace Memorial Church on October 30, 1948, with attendants Maxine and Albert Meier, Jr. They have two sons: Wesley Martin and John William Yarbor.

John worked at Carlton Ford Motor Company before starting his own business, A-1 Auto Service. From 1965 to 1976, he taught Ag-Mechanics at Wabash Valley College, where in 1973, he was chosen favorite teacher of the year.

While pastoring in Missouri, he concurrently conducted revivals in Illinois and Kansas, and held tent revivals in the Springfield, Missouri area. In Illinois, he pastored the Flora First Assembly God Church, the Grayville Ridge Baptist Church and the Mt. Carmel Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, where in 1988 he retired from pastoring. Afterwards he was guest speaker for pastors at local and southern Indiana churches. Rev. John was a volunteer at the Heartland Worship Center and Bridges of Hope Food Ministry. He was an avid Bible Scholar, fisherman, gardener, and a talented musician-playing the guitar, mandolin, accordion and piano. John enjoyed vacations with family.

He is survived by his wife Bessie, of 70 years; sons, Wesley Yarbor and wife Cindy of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and John William Yarbor and wife Teresa (Burkett) of Bloomfield, Indiana; grandchildren, John Andrew “Andy” and Alex Nolan Yarbor; several nieces and nephews; and, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; twin brother and sister, Virgil and Virginia, who died in infancy; brothers, William Benjamin Yarbor and Max Yarbor, and sisters, Helen Houchins and Marguerite Stewart.

Visitation for Reverend Yarbor will be Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Heartland Worship Center, 212 West Second Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. with burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the United States of America Military Veterans, Wabash County Senior Citizens Center or Heartland Worship Center. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Short Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the VA Home Primary Care Team and Addis for caring for John the last few years, especially Candy Vetters of Addis and nurses from VA Home Primary Care. Also Jackie Knight and Norman Brunson for all they did for John. Thank you to those who mowed the yard (Loren Deisher and Earl Sherman), sent food, greetings, prayed and called. There were many others who helped—too numerous to name everyone. Please don’t feel slighted if your name was not mentioned, for whatever you did, everything was greatly appreciated. William Joseph Trapp, 94

William Joseph Trapp, 94, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Oakview Heights surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 7, 1925, the son of Ben and Edna (Peters) Trapp in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Bill married Doris Willett on September 14, 1949 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church.  They had been married 61 years when she passed in 2010.

Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He was a lifetime farmer.  Bill was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was in the Army National Guard.  He enjoyed reading, history and being with his family.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his children, Marilyn Redding and husband Paul, Alice Wirth and husband Gary, Francie Perry and husband Jack, and daughter-in-law Gigi Trapp; grandchildren, Amy Hale, Sarah Trapp, Erin Mann, Kelly Farr, John Trapp, Katie Pearson, Audrey Jones, Cori Wohlhueter, Spencer Redding, Michael, Daniel and Christopher Wirth, Hilary Wiemers; great-grandchildren, Chase Hale, Madeleine, Lucy and Jack Mann, Silas Farr, Ronan Trapp, Anna Grace Pearson, Madelyn, Molly and Charlie Jones, Joanna and Sydney Wohlhueter, Ethan Pezzani and Ashton Wirth; and, a twin sister, Wilma Taylor.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Jed and Steve Trapp; and sisters, Mildred Presnell, Freida Trapp and Clara Bailey.

Friends and family may call for visitation on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with Rosary being held at 4:30 p.m. prior to the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 125 W. 5th Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois and burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

The Graveside Funeral Service for Bobby L. Sales was held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Gary Underwood of the General Baptist Church conducted the service. It included Prayer and Scripture Readings. Bobby was saluted with full Military Honors by the Mt. Carmel Veterans Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard. Family members served as pallbearers. Funeral Report-Barbara A. Fiscus

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Parkview Christian Church to honor the life of Barbara A. Fiscus with Pastor Daniel Moore and Pastor Mark Richison officiating. Prior to the service a recording of “It Is Well” performed by Barbara’s granddaughters, Lauren, Emily and Ellie Goodson was played. Pastor Richison welcomed the congregation and opened the service with a prayer. Pastor Daniel Moore shared the Service Message and Barbara’s Grandson, Caleb Goodson shared a Bible Reading. Kim Goodson, Barbara’s daughter-in-law, spoke on behalf of the family thanking everyone for their kindness and closed the service with a prayer. Special musical selections performed by Troy Kemper on the guitar included “How Great Thou Art” and “I’ll Fly Away”. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home to honor the life of Tony Campbell. Pastor Tim Bobbitt officiated the service which included prayers, reading of the obituary, scripture and a message. Scripture passages were taken from Revelation 17. Special musical recordings selected for the service was “My Sweet Lord”, “Let it Be” and closing the service with “Here Comes the Sun”. Burial took place at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Barbara A. Fiscus 76

Barbara A. Fiscus 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born June 26, 1942 in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Betty (Beckerman) Hershberger.  Barbara married Donald Fiscus on October 18, 2002 and he survives.

Barbara was a devoted homemaker.  Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.  Barbara was naturally very artistic.  She was an avid yard sale seeker and enjoyed browsing thrift shops.  Barbara was devoted to her Christian Faith.  She was a very generous person and often times secretly blessed others in need.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald Fiscus; children, Tonya Murphy, Jay (Kim) Goodson, Mark (Stacey) Goodson; grandchildren, Andy (Amanda) Murphy, Lauren Goodson, Caleb Goodson, Emily Goodson, Ellie Goodson, Cameron (Marissa) Kieffer; great-grandchildren, Silas Murphy, Grayson Kieffer; sister, Louise (Steve) Taylor; nephews, Tony, Jarrod and Damon Banks, Brent Taylor.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother; and one daughter, Lisa Goodson.

James E. “Jim” Neigh, 77

James E. “Jim” Neigh, 77, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away at Daviess Community Hospital, Washington, Indiana, from Parkinson’s on Tuesday, May 7, 2019.

He was born August 27, 1941, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, to James L. and Elizabeth (Pallam) Neigh. Jim was married to Adah Cotner.

Jim proudly served his country as a staff Sargent with the United States Marine Corps. He was a flight engineer aboard a C-130 transport and refueling aircraft during his two tours of duty in Viet Nam.

Following his discharge from the Marine Corps, Jim continued to serve his community as a law enforcement officer both in Florida and North Carolina. He was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator for over 60 years and developed a fast and deep friendship with Mark Majors. They would talk early every morning as Mark drove to work over the past ten years.

Jim is survived by his wife Adah; sister, Jean (Bob) Perkins in California; son, Jimmy in Georgia; and, daughter, Nancy (Jeff) Sams and their two sons, Rylan and Conner in Macon, Georgia; and, Adah’s daughter, Amanda (Eric) Schmidt in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Bobby L. Sales, 77

Bobby L. Sales, 77, of Harrison, Arkansas, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

He was born November 23, 1941, in Marlow, Oklahoma, the son of Bill and Mildred (Johnson) Sales. After graduating high school, Bobby proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Lois LaVerne Stuessel on September 10, 1965, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. They had been married 41 years when she passed in 2006.

Bobby worked 42 years at Pacific Press and Shear as a power unit hydraulic assembler from 1964 until he retired in 2008. He loved wood working, was a member of VFW, Eagles and a past Commander of the American Legion.

Left to cherish Bobby’s memory are his sons, Scott Sales and his wife Madeline of Harrison, Arkansas, and Jim Sales of Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Sara Ditterline, Nathan Sales, Ashley Duke, Eddy Rust, Levi Slover, Seth Sales and Dakota Sales; and, seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Sisson, Trace Sisson, Brielle Ditterline, Axil Sales, Kellen Sales, Alaina Rust and Keegan Shaver.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVerne; brothers, Jim Sales and Billie Sales.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. There will be no visitation.

Tony Campbell, 57

Tony Campbell, 57, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Linda E. White Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.  He was born April 22, 1962 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Louis and Alva (Slunder) Campbell.  He married Angie Howard on May 15, 1987 and she survives. 

 Tony worked as a Boilermaker for twenty years before becoming disabled.  He loved music, especially the songs from The Beatles.  Tony enjoyed playing his guitar.  He enjoyed fishing, was a football fan, enjoyed UFC fights and loved his dog, Harley.  Tony was a Christian and loved God.   He was a family man and his grandchildren were his world.  Tony attended Union Mission Church.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

 Tony will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-one years, Angie; son Tanner (Ariel Bowdoin) Campbell; daughter, Erica (Shane) Cooper; grandchildren, Jason Ford, Blake, Brice and Jackson Cooper, Brayden, Brenna and Brylyn Green; God-daughter, Amber (Keith) Green; brothers, Mike (Shirley) Campbell, Andy (Renee) Campbell, Dennis Campbell; sisters, Peggy Wheeler, Kate (Robin) Keys, Trish (Jim) Harms.

Rockwell E. “Rocky” Bradley, 68

Rockwell E. “Rocky” Bradley, 68, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana, surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on November 24, 1950 in Harrisburg, Illinois, the son of Doyle Bradley Sr., and Mildred (Dalton) Bradley.  Rocky married Diane Smith on August 24, 1974 in Mount Carmel and she survives.

Rocky was employed through Carpenters Local #546 for more than forty years before retiring.  He loved to be outdoors.  Hunting with his grandsons and coaching baseball for them was among his favorite activities.  Rocky was a fun-loving guy and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Rocky was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Rocky will be remembered by his loving wife of forty-four years, Diane; daughter Tammy Bradley; grandsons, Hunter Tice, Bradley Tice and Emery Trost; brother, Doyle (Connie) Bradley; and many nieces and nephews.

Rocky was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vic Bradley.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.  A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Funeral Home with Father Bill Rowe officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
