Mt. Carmel Police arrested 27 year old Jacob M. Brown of Mt. Carmel after he was stopped by officers on S. Walnut Street. The arresting officer knew Brown was operating the 1997 Chevrolet on a suspended driver’s license. Police arrested Brown and transported him to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of $150.00 cash bond.
One Arrested, One Still At Large After Thursday Incident
On Thursday, at approximately 1:42 pm, Mt. Carmel Police were notified that two male subjects were attempting to cash a fraudulent check at the Mt. Carmel First Bank located at 6th and Market Street.
The two male subjects ran from the bank prior to the police arriving on scene. One of the subjects was located and taken into custody after he ran into Taco Tierra.
Police identified that subject as Derek S. Bennett, age 30, of Salem, Indiana. Bennett was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with forgery. Bennet was also wanted on a Washington County (Indiana) warrant for failing to appear on a DUI charge.
The investigation continues in regards to the second subject. Mt. Carmel Police are working with Indiana authorities in identifying that subject. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office.
Grader Schoolers Enthusiastic For Motivational Speaker
Corey Jones, one of the nation’s top motivational speakers, spoke to enthusiastic Wabash County students during two separate assemblies yesterday. Jones interacted with the students throughout his 45 presentation by mostly using basketballs. And, basketball is quite familiar to Jones as he was a member of LeBron James’ legendary Ohio high school team in Akron.
Following his presentation to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Mt. Carmel Grade School, Jones said his message applies to all students….
Before speaking in Mt. Carmel, Jones was Allendale speaking to students there along with those from St. Mary’s and Lancaster schools.

Shimkus Cosponsors Pro-Life Legislation
WASHINGTON – Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) has announced he will again cosponsor several pro-life bills that were reintroduced in the 116th Congress.

H.R. __, the Life at Conception Act, to be introduced by Rep. Alex Mooney (R, West Virginia-02)
This bill declares that life begins at conception and extends legal protections to children still in the womb. The bill is identical to H.R. 681 in the 115th Congress.
H.R. __, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, to be introduced by Rep. Chris Smith (R, New Jersey-04)
This bill prohibits performing an abortion on an unborn baby who is 20 weeks or older. The bill is identical to H.R. 36 in the 115th Congress.

CHARGES: UNIT 1 – Driver was cited for Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident
TRANSPORTS: UNIT 1 – Unit 1 Driver was transported by Ambulance to Salem Township Hospital then flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis
PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 1 was traveling Selmaville Rd southbound. Unit 1 approached a curve to the right near Red Stripe Rd. Unit 1 failed to negotiate the curve, crossed the northbound lane and exited the roadway left. Unit 1 began skidding sideways through the grass and made impact with the north side ditch of Red Stripe Rd. Upon impact with the ditch, Unit 1 rolled coming to rest on its top.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
Grayville Man Arrested For Driving While Suspended & On Revoked License
1/20/2019-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 41 year old Freddie L. Swift of Grayville after he was stopped for a traffic violation in the area of 3rd and Bellmont Street. During the traffic stop it was discovered that Swift was driving on a suspended registration and driving while license is revoked. Swift was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he received his citations and was held pending the posting of $150.00 cash bond.
Traffic Stop Results In 2 Gibson County Residents Being Arrested
1/20/2019-Mt. Carmel Police arrested two subjects after they were stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of E. 3rd Street. During the traffic stop MCPD K-9 Ace arrived on scene and indicated possible narcotics in the vehicle. Police searched the vehicle and located suspected drug paraphernalia. Police arrested 48 year old Jacqueline S. Lloyd of Princeton and 33 year old Steven K. Linxwiler of Patoka on drug paraphernalia charges. Both were transported to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of bond.
Mt. Carmel Woman Goes To MCPD To File Report & Is Arrested On KY DOC Warrant
01/21/2019-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 32 year old Susan M. Askren of Mt. Carmel on a Kentucky Department of Corrections parole warrant after she arrived at the Mt. Carmel Police Department to file a report. During the course of the investigation it was discovered that Askren was wanted on the Kentucky warrant. Askren was held at the Wabash County Jail until transfer to Kentucky.
Two Cited For Allowing Dogs To Run At Large
01/22/2019-Mt. Carmel Police cited two individuals for permitting a dog to run at large. Police were called to the 500 block of Cedar Street reference a dog bite complaint. The complainant advised that while walking down the road, a dog entered the roadway and bit him in the leg. The owner of the dog as Cheryl D. Nelson. Nelson was issued a citation and released. The complainant required medical attention but was expected to make a full recovery.
Mt. Carmel Police were called to the 200 block of Bellmont Street in reference to 2 dogs running loose. One of the dogs was said to have knocked a 5 year old boy to the ground causing a minor cut to his leg. The owner of the dog was identified as Brandon L. Garrett. Garrett was issued a citation and released.
