Wabash County Battles Issues With Bridgeport Blacktop

Wabash County road crews continue to work hard at putting roads back together in the aftermath of last week’s torrential rains. The Bridgeport Blacktop was especially hard hit, washing away part of the shoulder in parts. Highway Engineer Dustin Bunting told the county board Monday that the fix isn’t coming easily either. There currently are signs posted in the effected area, and crews will get the full repair done as soon as they can, he said.

Final WSJD Interview With District #348 Superintendent Tim Buss

During his time as superintendent of Wabash District #348, Tim Buss has been a frequent guest of the WSJD Morning Show updating the community on the district and educational issues. With his retirement looming on June 30th, Tim made his final visit as superintendent to The Morning Show today. We touched on his memories over 33 years in the district, the low points, the high points, along with what lies ahead for the district. 

District #348 School Board Says Goodbye To Superintendent Tim Buss

It was the end of an era tonight as the retiring Tim Buss attended his final school board meeting as Wabash District #348 Superintendent. At the conclusion of the meeting, school board president Tim Schuler presented Buss with a plaque acknowledging his 33 years in the district….

Buss’s last day on the job is June 30th. Dr. Chuck Bleyer will then take over as superintendent the following day.

ISP ANNOUNCE RESULTS OF NIGHTTIME ENFORCEMENT PATROL IN WABASH & EDWARDS COUNTIES

Carmi – Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, announces the results of a Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrol in Wabash and Edwards Counties during June. This NITE patrol allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations, especially between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occur at night. The NITE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous impaired drivers from the road and making sure everyone is buckled up. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Pekin/Harris Insurance Donate $2,000 For Stage At Merchants Park

Mike Harris with Harris Insurance Agency is shown presenting a check for $1,000 from Pekin Insurance to Kyle Peach, Treasurer of the Market Street MTC group, as a donation to building a stage at The Merchants Park.  Harris Insurance Agency matched the $1,000 donation for a total contribution of $2,000.

Silent Fliers

Friday, June 22nd, 9am-11am

Owls are amazing nocturnal birds of prey. Learn why owls are classified as birds of prey, which species are common to our area, what types of prey make up their diet, why they regurgitate pellets, and discover facts about their unique abilities and senses. Participants will dissect an owl pellet. This program is designed for children ages 8 to 12. Please meet at the park's Visitor Center.
 

Pond Life

Friday, June 29th, 9am-11am

Grab your rubber boots and get ready to find some interesting looking aquatic creatures. We will be in search of macroinvertebrates (invertebrates that can be seen with the naked eye). Learn where each species fits into the feeding relationships in a pond habitat and which are considered indicator species.This program is designed for children ages 8 to 12. Please meet at the park's Visitor Center.

Leaf Litter Critters

Saturdays, June 23rd and 30th, 9 - 11am

This is a two part program. On Saturday the 23rd, we will be in search of leaf litter critters. Participants will be collecting leaf litter samples and learning how to use a Berlese funnel. On Saturday the 30th, dissecting scopes will reveal how many different types of organisms were buried under the leaves. Participants will  record species diversity and abundance for each collection site. Please register by June 16th if you plan to attend. Participants should be over the age of 10. Woman Arrested For Driving While Suspended

On 6/14/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Jaimee L. Dardeen, age 27, of Mt. Carmel, for Driving While License Suspended.  Dardeen was observed operating a gray Chevrolet in the 1400 block of West 3rd Street.  Dardeen was stopped and placed under arrest.  Dardeen was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending the bond posting of $150 cash. 

Violating Order Of Protection & Running From Police Land Man In Jail

On 6/15/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Vincent A. Sutton, age 52, of Mt. Carmel, for Violation of an Order of Protection and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer.  Officers were called to check on a blue Dodge truck driving around the area of 6th & Division Street revving its engine.  Officers found Sutton driving around the area in a vehicle as described.  Officers knew that Sutton had an Emergency Order of Protection against him protecting a person that resided in this area.  Officers attempted to make contact with Sutton which resulted in Sutton running into a nearby residence to avoid law enforcement.  Sutton was taken into custody at this time and transported to the Wabash County Jail.  Sutton is being held pending the bond setting by a judge.

Also on 6/15/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Zachary A. Mathis, age 27, of Mt. Carmel for Disorderly Conduct following an incident in the 1000 block of W 6th Street.  Mathis was reportedly yelling profanities at the officers for arresting Vincent Sutton.  This caused a neighbor to complain about Mathis disturbing the peace in the area.  The neighbor asked Mathis to quiet down but Mathis continued his behavior.  The neighbor requested to have Mathis arrested and was allowed to sign a complaint against for his arrest.  Mathis was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and later released on a $150 cash bond. 

Stopping For A Nap Leads To Arrest Of Bicknell Man

On 6/16/18 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Ryan D. Kroll, age 23, of Bicknell, IN for Driving While License Suspended and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle.  Kroll was found sleeping in a red Chevrolet truck that was parked in the east alley of the 500 block of North Walnut Street.  Kroll admitted he stopped to sleep as he was tired from driving.  Kroll was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail pending the posting of a $200 cash bond.
