Busy Day For Police Officers
Putnamville—Today, from 6:00a.m. until 6:30p.m. this evening, troopers responded to (20) slide-offs; (13) property damage crashes; (2) minor injury crashes; and (5) disabled vehicles.
The concentrated area of problems was Interstate 70 between the 37mm and the 45mm (Putnam County). There were intermediate lane closures for crash cleanup and removal of wreckage in this area.
State Road 59 was closed near Mansfield in Parke County for about an hour. A truck and fifth wheel trailer loaded with building supplies was stranded across the road.
The overwhelming cause of these incidents were motorists driving too fast for conditions.
Officials Advise: Don't Call 911 For Road Conditions
If you’re wondering what road conditions are like this weekend, the last thing law enforcement want you to do is to call 9-1-1. Your call to 9-1-1 asking about road conditions could prevent or delay a true emergency call being answered. Sgt. Mark Zimmerman of the Illinois State Police says there’s a simple way to check road conditions….

School Board Meets To Consider Superintendent Candidates
The search to find a new Wabash District #348 superintendent may seem to be inching along, but that’s not the case. Board president Tim Schuler says everything is still on track, as or now, to announce a new superintendent at the board’s February 26th meeting. The board met in executive session tonight to continue considering candidates.
At its’ conclusion, Schuler said the board will be continuing first round interviews with second round interviews at a later date. Schuler said the board is hoping to stay with the original timeline to hire a new superintendent, but it may need to be changed.
The board is looking for a successor to replace Tim Buss who retires June 30th.
INDOT Full Plow Truck Call-Out Planned for Friday’s Ice and Snow
The Indiana Department of Transportation is scheduling a full call-out of plow trucks throughout the state in anticipation of icy conditions during Friday morning's commute. Weather forecasts are calling for rain, followed by freezing rain and snow.
INDOT has 1,092 snow plows across the state and drivers will be in place along 929 designated snow routes in advance of the approaching winter storm. INDOT subdistrict garages will be fully staffed with mechanics until operations have concluded. Drivers and mechanics will work 12-hour shifts as long as needed.
State highways and interstates will be treated continuously with granular salt along snow routes during tomorrow morning’s “rush hour” to minimize iced-over pavements.
INDOT officials advise motorists to leave early, drive slowly and be on constant alert for icy patches and black ice on roadways. Take it slow when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges or shady areas – all are hot spots for black ice.
Tomorrow afternoon’s commute will be impacted by significant snowfall and drivers are urged to give plow truck drivers plenty of room to maneuver. Remember to stay out of drivers' “blind spots” and allow ample time to make the trip and arrive safely.
Know before you go
INDOT reminds Hoosiers to drive defensively and plan extra travel time during winter weather. Hoosier Helpers sponsored by State Farm will patrol urban interstates in Indianapolis, Northwest Indiana and Southern Indiana near Louisville during heavy travel periods.
